I am an extremely anxious person by nature, and I feel that if I don’t learn a natural and healthy way to control my nerves, not only will I live in a shell my whole life, but potentially go to the grave earlier.
Can anyone recommend me a meditation book that will knock my socks off?
We just love hearing news about schools introducing kids to yoga. And it seems that Canadian schools really understand the many benefits that yoga practice can offer students and are leading the way in making time on the mat an accepted part of a curriculum. Now, thanks to Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Board of Education, Vancouver’s school district 41 in is approving yoga for school credit. Other Canadian schools also offer high school credit. We want to know: Do schools in your area offer school credit for yoga?
My Yoga Online has posted a new article by Melina Meza : Bring On The Spring. Melina gives you tips and ideas on how to prepare your mind and body for this upcoming season and how to embrace spring with lightening your load.
Enjoy tips and ideas on how to adapt your yoga asana practice and diet to accommodate the beauty unfolding in spring. Although the weather can really be hit or miss these days, there is enough proof in nature to confirm that spring is just around the corner, close enough to consider shifting your diet and yoga practice to complement the season.
Lighten your load
It makes sense that many of us are drawn to the idea of cleansing and purging this time of year—it’s time to lighten our load. Spring is really a time to THRIVE and it’s difficult to thrive if you feel weighted down by your inner or outer world. In order to feel your best, perhaps a little cleanse is in order to get rid of any extra winter weight, household clutter, or material possessions that keep you in the past or limit your freedom in the moment.
Here are a few diet adaptations that will help prepare your body and mind for spring:
• Decrease heavy, oily, cold, fatty foods.
• Increase spicy, bitter, and astringent foods (arugula, mustard greens, kale, strawberries, blueberries, and sprouts).
• Increase your vitamin, nutrient and chlorophyll intake with early dark green vegetables and sprouts.
• In general, eat light and eat local.

when i sit with my back unsupported, such as in a position like crossed legs(indian style) or lotus position, my lower(usually) back begins hurting within several minutes. this is obviousley a big distraction from my meditation practice, but i really like the idea of using this position for meditation. specifically, what is causing this or what can i do to fix it?
I decided it does not make a point in lifting weight not that it is not effective but of time constraints…Calisthenics i can almost do anywhere and anytime.. Will calisthenics and some yoga i learned get me a toned and defined body
Everyone’s favorite supermodel, Brazilian beauty Gisele Bundchen, practices Anusara Yoga. She talks about how yoga kept her fit during her pregnancy in the April issue of Vogue. You can read part of the article here. In it, you’ll learn that her son Benjamin Rein Brady was delivered at home in a water birth, her new line of natural skincare Sejaa (“seja” means “to be” in Portugese) is launching today, and that Gisele really does seem to have her heart in the right place when it comes to her humanitarian and environmental ideals. Go Gisele!
There was a guy on here the other day asking what kind of fur his meditation mat should be made of. This surprised me because I had no idea that meditation mats were made of fur. Is this usual?

Chloe Sevigny Loves Yoga Actress Chloe Sevigny must really love yoga because she is talking it up all over the place! We aren't sure what style she practices or where she places her mat. Gov. Robert F. McDonnell signed a bill last night that would protect yoga schools in Virginia from being regulated by the State Council for Higher Education, which oversees other vocational trainings. Some people view this as a legal victory; others think state regulation would benefit students in teacher training programs. What do you think?
