5 Promotional Gifts for Discreet Marketing

Everybody likes freebies! And this is why using promotional gifts for your marketing purposes can be the idea of the year (although the idea is in use for about a century now!). Rewards or souvenirs that are not solicited by the potential clients but given out for free are almost always welcome, especially if they can be used in day-to-day life.

Here are 5 promotional gifts that you can use to promote yourselves:

  • Bags – An all-purpose bag is something that everyone secretly craves for, as far as freebies are concerned. So there is no better way than get yourself going with a promotional bag on offer.
  • Calendars – Calendars are also one of the most frequently used (and viewed) daily items in a home. So if you can provide customized calendars to your potential client base, half the war is won!
  • Magnets – Magnets, especially fridge magnets can be a great boost for your marketing campaign – especially with women and children (who use fridges most!). So if you are a cosmetics dealer or a toy trader – magnets is the in-thing of the year!
  • Coffee Mugs – Coffee mugs can also be a constant marketing tool, albeit indirectly, when customized and provided as a free reward.
  • Pens – Pens, although much more subtle and diminishing in importance with the advent of smaller QWERTY keyboards and i-applications, can also help you market yourself to the niche consumer base.

There are numerous other ways of using promotional gifts for business purposes, without even dropping a hint of the same to the potential consumers you are handing over the gifts to!

Electronic Manufacturing Services Trends
Electronic Manufacturing Services Trends

© mfabbriIn a recent article published in EMS2007, Eric Miscoll, of Charlie Barnhart & Associates, discussed the health of the Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) industry. EMS is a mature business that has seen tepid growth, due to overcapacity and a slow, but steady, move toward bringing some high level manufacturing back in-house.

Growth forecasts for the EMS industry are weak - between 0% and 7.8% for the next three years, primarily due to the issues described above. The article argues that, until there is a new "killer app" (i.e., a new, innovative product), a reduction in capacity or a modified focus on customer interest, Mr. Miscoll doesn't see general growth in the industry.

One of the other criticisms Miscoll has of the industry is their focus on tweaking their value proposition rather than bringing real innovation to their business model. As I have learned from BPO, it isn't clear whether customers want innovation - or are willing to let outsourcing partners profit from innovation - so there may be external constraints here.

In fact, I would suggest that the article be read by all in outsourcing, regardless of industry. While the timing of the underlying issues may differ by industry segment, the issues themselves remain constant - maturity, capacity, customer service and innovation. Outsourcers of all stripes must continue to address these issues to sustain growth in the sector.

Brake Issues Associated With the Toyota Prius Recall

In addition to their highly publicized problem with sticking accelerator pedals, Toyota has recently announced a new problem with the 2010 Toyota Prius Model. This new issue is with the model’s anti-lock braking system, which causes the car to have an “inconsistent brake feel” on rough or slippery surfaces.

There have been at least 100 complaints from Prius buyers within the United States, and at least 2 injuries have been reported as a result. The Prius recall expands the number of Toyota vehicles to have been recalled by an additional 437,000 vehicles.

Which Toyota Prius vehicles are affected?

This new Toyota recall will only affect 2010 Prius models manufactured before January 27th. Previous generation models are unaffected because they have different brake system software. Beginning at the end of February, Toyota will send letters out to all affected Prius owners, notifying them of the brake defect. The repair, Toyota said, will involve a simple, 30-minute installation of new anti-lock brake software.

Does this have anything to do with the unexpected acceleration recall?

This Toyota recall issue is completely different from the issue of unexpected acceleration, which affects 2.3 million Toyota cars because of sticking accelerator pedals. The 2010 Prius model is not included in the unexpected acceleration recall. This is only a problem with the anti-lock brakes which, Toyota has claimed, can easily be fixed.

Is my Prius safe to drive?

According to a Toyota spokesman, the 2010 Prius is safe to drive. Of course, it is recommended that you use extreme caution when driving any recalled vehicle. If you do experience a problem with your brakes, do not pump the pedal. Instead, apply steady, firm pressure, pull your car over, and call a local dealership for assistance.

If you have been injured in a car accident that you believe was caused by the Toyota Prius brake issue, you may need to contact a personal injury attorney to discuss your rights to pursue a personal injury claim in connection with an accident caused by manufacturer defect.
