Israel hacks into Hezbollah TV

"ISRAEL today hacked into the television station of Hezbollah, emblazoning images on the screen showing pictures of corpses and claiming the Shiite militant group's leader Hassan Nasrallah was a liar."

I haven't heard any other news agency reporting this, but if it is true it is so badass!

A new way to solve problems...the Zidane way!

It was certainly a tragic and unfortunate set of events in the World Cup final game that lead to the on-field "blow-up" of Zinedine Zidane. This, however, is hilarious.

Better than nothing!

I have been spending less and less time surfing the internet/blogs lately and subsequently I haven't been nearly as interested in keeping up with my blog.  At the same time, however, I am not totally prepared to let it go.  My favorite website, digg, a user-run news site where users submit and rank websites based on votes (diggs), is about to help me out.  Digg has incorporated a blogging engine into the site that allows users to quickly and automatically blog news stories with the click of a button.  So I may not always have the time or motivation to write full blogposts, but this digg add-on will provide me with the ability to more easily let people know what's on my mind.

Also, if you want to sign up as a digg user for all of it's great free features, feel free to add me as a friend so we can see what each other "diggs!"

The Postal Service begin work on new album!

The Postal Service, aka Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello, are working on a follow-up to their 2003 album "Give Up" on Sub-Pop records.  So far, they're got two songs recorded, but will be working on more after Death Cab for Cutie's summer tour winds down.  I can't wait for this!

Movie Review: The Da Vinci Code

Tom_hanks27 I can only come up with one word to describe Ron Howard's movie adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code."  That word is anomaly.  People often complain that movies do not live up to the books that inspire them because directors opt for plot changes and are forced to leave important details out.  Now people are complaining because Ron Howard came along and made a movie that actually does accurately represent this fairly complex book.

The movie is more like a "videobook" than a cinematic work of art.  For me it was a great way to relive the adventures of Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu.  As a separate work of art it deserves little acclaim.  It certainly won't win any awards for directing, acting, or cinematography.  But in this case, I'm perfectly happy with that.  For the casual moviegoer I can understand how the complexity of the codebreaking and symbolism which Ron Howard painstakingly includes in the film can detract from it's appeal.  But for the detail-oriented thinkers out there who thoroughly enjoyed the book, I think this movie is quite entertaining.  My rating: 8 out of 10.

Tech History 101

BootcampA little news blip on this otherwise mundane day, the 5th of April in the fantastic year of 2006, may prove to be one of the most significant developments in computer history.  Today Apple has officially introduced the ability to run Microsoft Windows on Apple Macintosh computers.  Read the news here.  Check out Boot Camp here.

iWood

Videoinfo_08I've been a long-time supporter of iSkin, my favorite iPod case company.  I thought I was pretty cool with my black eVo3.  Turns out I was more functional than cool.  If you want to be the coolest iPod geek on the block, you need one of these.

Am I a Bodeist?

Umm...let me think about that.  Hell no.  I can't stand that guy.

Star Wars 3D?

I was listening to the latest episode of the Engadget podcast this morning and the guys mentioned that George Lucas is planning on re-releasing the original Star Wars Trilogy yet again, and this time in 3D.  Is this how Hollywood envisions fighting off media piracy? ...by producing content that is virtually impossible to duplicate in the living room?  Maybe this is one reason why IMax has been gaining popularity over the past several years.  Studios feel that it is untouchable by software pirates.  I know one thing, even as a big fan of the original Star Wars Trilogy, I would have no interest in going to see them again in 3D.  If I were under eighteen, however, it may be a whole different story.

CES 2006: TiVo Series 3

Series3topfront1TiVo drives me nuts.  On the one hand, I respect them so much for creating such a great brand in a few short years with and a very useful technology.  On the other hand, why do they take so long to evolve their products?  With the impending prominance of downloadable video content (i.e. the iTunes Music Store), recording programs off of a cable feed will soon be a thing of the past.  It will be interesting to see whether or not TiVo can offer the kinds of services in the future to compete in this new era video distribution.  They have already made one solid move by teaming up with Netflix, the DVD delivery company that is known to be developing an online movie download system.  It remains to be seen who will reign supreme in the delivery of television content.

At CES 2006, TiVo finally announced Series 3 TiVo machines which will debut in 2006.  The units will contain dual HDTV tuners and will support cable cards.  They also will display program information on the front of the unit so we no longer have to wonder what our little TiVo's are up to.  This is great news, but is it too little too late?  Will these machines be ready to interface with the likes of the Netflix movie store one day or will we have to wait, wait, wait for TiVo Series 4?
