Another cold, wet Saturday
This past Saturday was to be our big ride for Run for the Son. As luck would have it, it was a perfect wet, cold, Wisconsin spring day. I tried to ride out, but a couple of miles from home I couldn't get my helmet visor to not fog up, so I had to turn around and get the car. I was the only one from our chapter with a car. I may have been dryer and warmer than the rest of the group, but I was miserable. Watching our small group ride from the back end of everything was one of the worst things ever. On the good side of everything, I was able to raise $470!

Despite the strong winds and cold weather, the bike blessing went good yesterday. We had about 20 people from the Milwaukee area chapters come up and that was a huge help. When we were sure most CMAers were there we got together to pray and break into prayer teams for the blessing. Before all of that, to my surprise, there was a little something in store for me. It was my 1 year anniversary of rededicating my life to Christ, so we had a little birthday party. It was a little embarassing, but that's ok. After all that just did some catching up with some some of the people I met last year. The turn out wasn't as big as last year, probably due to the weather, but there were still quite a few people that turned out, some on bikes some by car, but they were all there for the same reason. In all, there were 5 people who were saved.

Well, I didn't get the position I applied for. I was a little put down by it for all of about a half hour. It's not the end of the world, and considering how my friend Robb came out of his interview, I thin I may be glad I didn't get it. I am hoping that Robb got it so that I can apply for his position. It just wasn't in the cards this time, oh well, life goes on.

The weather has been great the past few days. I don't think we've had the heat on since Friday morning. It's been in the 70's since Saturday. I'll have to mow tomorrow. Not looking forward to that as I'm in the worst shape I've ever been in. I've really been trying to get a grasp on weight lately. Beginning of the year I was hovering around 250. Now I'm at 260. I've cut back on the snacking at work, and am trying to not eat as much (except for tonight I pigged out on steak, baked tater, and salad). I've been trying to cut down on soda at work and drink more water. It's hard to things as I sit on my butt all day. I have started to take the stairs every once and a while.

Saturday is looking good for the bike blessing. I can't wait to see the people I met last year and just hang out for the day. Hard to believe it's been a year since that big change in my life.

Hope everyone has a good week!!

So it's been a little while since I've written. Not a long time, but a week or two. Not much is going on. My back freaked out on Sunday, and I finally resorted to taking the muscle relaxers. It all started when I was drying off after my shower. I was a bit sore from riding on Saturday (160 miles putting up posters for the bike blessing). I thought things were ok. I was feeling good, and then all of a sudden. WACK!!! It was like someone hit me with a baseball bat. I took a Vicaden, we went to church and I still hurt. Luckily, I didn't have to work the sound booth or pay too much attention this week as we had a concert. I still enjoyed it. After that we went to go look at cars and over to my parents house to see how my mom is doing with her hot pink cast. Things were good there. We came home, poped another Vic, watch the race, grilled some steaks. Then came the muscle relaxer. Dude. That stuff is freaky. The pain went away and I felt ok. Then I got super sleepy, but I wasn't. Anyway I felt way better this morning, but just wanted to sleep all day.

I applied for a new position at work. This would be huge if I would get it, not only in terms of responsibility but financially. I would be running all kinds of reports, going to meetings, and trying to figure out what is holding people up from being able to work their tasks on time. Who knows really what it is, as this is a brand new position that's been created. There are two positions open, and one of the other people in my area is applying as well, which is good, we make a good team. I should find out this week if I get an interview, as apps were due today. I'm really hoping that I get it  as I'm being moved once again to an area that I don't mind working, but I had no say in the move (my knowledge is what did it). I'd like to have some input on where I'm going. But I understand, with what I know and what they are paying me, I don't really belong where I am at the moment. That's ok. I know something good is going to happen this year!

Who turned on that really bright ball in the sky?
Today was a really good day. The sun was out, the birds were singing, it was above 40, and I was on the open road! I took a little 2 hour tour today. Still some sandy spots on the roads, but it isn't bad, and what there is should be gone by mid-week with the rains they say are coming.

So, on my last entry I mentioned I was raising money for CMA's Run for The Sun. So far I'm doing much better than I thought I would have. I won't say an exact amount until May 3rd, the day of the ride, but I will say that I was figuring to get about $10 per person that I sent forms to. I mailed about 12 people, that would be $120. I'm well above that. God works in some mysterious ways, and day by day, I'm seeing more of His amazing power.

So yeah, haven't written anything in a while. What's new? The past 3 weeks have been a little nutty. One Sunday was spent at a biker swap meet manning the CMA booth. Another week was at Shelly's folks house. And last weekend went to a Casting Crowns concert, then went almost directly up north for a CMA event. Didn't get to the hotel until 2:30 in the morning, then had to get up by 6:30. I think this was the first weekend in 3 weeks I was able to attend church (I attended church last weekend, but not at my church). Things will be calm for about the next month I think, aside from the usual stuff.

Thursday was the best day of the year so far, I was able to ride my bike to work. Too bad I left early with a nasty headache, so I couldn't enjoy the weather too much. I just got a new seat, so I'm real excited to get out there and see how that feels. It's a little bigger, so it should fit my fat ass quite well! :)

On a bit sadder note, my mom broke her leg a couple of weeks ago. She had a surgery last week to put some rods in to stabilize until the swelling goes down so they can put a plate and some screws in. She is suposed to go in on Tuesday for that. So those of you who do a bit of praying every now and then, could you please pray for her. We're hoping there won't be any complications, but because she is diabetic, there are some risks.  She said the doctor told her the two worst case scenerios, blood clots that could be fatal, or amputation. I can't stand to think of either of those things happening.

Ok, back to the happy. I've just finished stuffing envelopes for CMAs Run for the Son, with the help of the lovely [info]cosmosmariner. I had no idea I would work up a sweat doing that (or maybe that was the wine). Can't wait for the riding season to get underway!!

Have a great week!

stuff
So things are going good here. Things are starting to get busy, not at work, but here at home. I'm going flying this weekend, and taking our church's youth pastor with me. He has an insterest in flying, and I told him any time, and this Saturday we're going on a little adventure.

Next weekend is my first time going to an event as a CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Association) member. I'm a little nervous, but I'm not going to be by myself. It's a swap meet that one of the area motorcycle clubs put on, and we have a booth. Should be interesting. I'm really looking forward to the riding season, and having a chance to reach out to those who need it. I really can't wait until the bike blessing in April, when I get to see some of the people I met there last year.

And finally, the last week of February we're going to fly to see Shelly's family. We're flying, but I'm doing the flying! Big step. Just have to hope for good weather that weekend. I'm really looking forward to that. A 3 hour flight vs. a 9 hour car ride. Good times!

This just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. We've got a winter storm warning tomorrow night. Part of the National Weather Service bulletin reads:

A WINTER STORM WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED TO
COMBINE WITH STRONG WINDS OF 25 MPH OR MORE TO CAUSE MAJOR IMPACTS
TO COMMERCE AND SOCIETY.

I can't wait for it to impact society. That just sounds evil.

Say hello to my little friend

Yes I'm alive

Merry Christmas
Welcome to the "Christmas Edition" of getting to know your friends.
Okay, here's what you're supposed to do and try not to be a SCROOGE!!!
Just copy this entire email and paste into a new blank e-mail that you can send.
Change all the answers so they apply to you.

Then, send this to a whole bunch of people you know, INCLUDING the person who sent it to you. It's the season to be cheerful!!!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?  Wrapping paper for sure, the more metallic the better

2. Tree--Real or Artificial? I'd love to have a real one, but the cat would either eat it or climb up it, plus last real one I had when I was I kid I couldn't be around. I was allergic or something.

3. When do you put Christmas tree up?  Right after Thanks Giving, usually. This year, it was around the first of December

4. When do you take the tree down? Some time in January?

5. Like eggnog?  If it's the right kind. Not that soy crap

6. Do you have a nativity scene? We have a couple.

7. Favorite gift received as a child?  I would have to say it's a toss up between the Christmas I got my first computer, or when I got my Nintendo

8. Hardest person to buy for?  My Dad, he either wants world peace, and when I say I can't get that, he says whirled peas.

9. Easiest person to buy for? Usually Shelly. I get ideas all year long

10. Worst Christmas gift?   No such thing. The only bad gift is the one not given.

11. Mail or email Christmas Card? Mail. I don't mind the e-mail ones, as long as I get/send a real one.

12. Favorite Christmas movie?  A Christmas Story. You'll shoot your eye out!

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? This year I started this week. I'm usually almost done by now, but finances were a bit on the tight side.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Don't think so.

15. Favorite food to eat on Christmas?  I always looked forward to the Harry and Dave box for the Chocolate Decadence. But, since we will no longer be getting those, I'm not sure.

16. Clear or colored tree lights? I like both. I really like our white and blue ones.

17. Favorite Christmas Song? I try to avoid those.

18. Travel during Christmas or Stay home? Depends on the year. If we have Thanks Giving here, we go to Shelly's folks for Christmas and vice versa. This year, we're stuck here though. :(

19. Can you name Santa's reindeer?  Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen!

20. Star or Angel on Tree top? Grew up with a star. But now we have an angel.

21. Open presents on Christmas Eve or morning:  Depends on if we're still awake Christmas Eve

22. Most annoying thing about this time of year:  The commercialism. People seem to have forgotten about what we are celebrating, and don't bother to teach their kids that it's better to give than receive.

23. Do you attend Christmas Eve services? Haven't in a long time. Don't think our current church has that.

Since this IS the Christmas version, it should have 25 questions.....so I'm adding two more.....

24.   Do you have any family traditions observed during Christmas? We used to all go to my grandparents (on my Moms side) and have a huge dinner and open presents. But now that they are both gone, it's been going to my aunt and uncle's house. It's not the same, but it's better than being alone.

25.  Who do you wish you could see on Christmas?  This year....Shelly's family.

Those Born 1930-1979

 This is so true…

Those born 1930-1979, READ TO THE BOTTOM FOR QUOTE OF THE MONTH BY JAY LENO. IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE---IT'S VERY WELL STATED.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930s, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's:

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine
bottles, doors or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes we had no helmets. Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter, and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day.... and we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, or video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms .........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth --- and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls, and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not

everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We've had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good .  While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?

The quote of the month is from Jay Leno:

'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

not much new
Not too much new here. Looks like we'll actually have a white Christmas this year, unless all the snow melts. In the last week or so, we've gotten about 9 inches. That's the most I can remember for early December in a long time. Last year I still had my bike out until January 5. That reminds me, I have to take the battery out of my bike....oops.

I've finally made the big push to finish up my ministry course for CMA. I've been kind of putting it off, but after our meeting yesterday, I've really been going at it. Only one more DVD to watch. We're planning a busy year, so the more I can put in, the better it will be.

That's really all that's going on, not alot. Have a good week!!

catmacro time
my first catmacro!!

So last night was the Newsboys concert. It was amazing. I didn't regain my voice until about 4 this afternoon, and even at that it still hurts (along with other parts of my body).  More to follow later.

TGIF
So today is Friday, and good thing too. Of 7 people in our department, we only had 3 counting myself today. Everyone was either sick, or in the case of one person, scheduled off. Made things a bit interesting, but we pulled through just fine. I'm really kind of excited for Monday to come so I can find out our stats and see how awesome we did today.

Had to deal with the same old ignorant people today, setting aside phone numbers so that the customer could have it again in 6 months with out having to pay for seasonal service. Just because they've done it in years past doesn't mean that it is right and you can still do it. In fact, it's not exactly legal to do. There are days I just want to reach out and smack someone. But it's Friday, I'll deal with it next week!

Not too much new here. Our trip to Minneapolis was exciting. Nice to get away, even if for a weekend. Work is starting to slow down, but that's to be expected. With winter coming, and the construction season starting to slow, so does the phone industry with new installs and laying of cable.

This weekend was almost too short. I went to the monthly CMA meeting. There was a decision made to move the meeting place from the Harley dealership in Madison to another location. I'm not exactly thrilled about this decision. When it was brought up, I was open to it, as the chapter is going stale, and needs a refreshing. But now that I think of it, I'm not really liking it. The move of the meeting place will add an extra 15 to 20 minutes onto the ride. So instead of being about 45 minutes, it's going to be just over an hour, one way. From what it seems like, the people making this decision to make the move is to better suit their needs, not necissarily the needs of the chapter. The leadership has decided not to run again for office in this years elections and there are not any qualified members to run. So, by moving the chapter, two of them have said that they will stay on. As far as I know, I will now have the longest drive to the meeting. I enjoyed were the meeting was, it was quiet, easy to get to, and we had a private meeting area. I'm not going to go into details, but the new meeting area is a more public area, and I'm not really comfortable with that. I don't understand why no one, or myself, didn't bring up the idea of asking any of the local churches if they would mind hosting our meetings. It's only one Saturday a month. It would be a better environment from where we will now have our meetings, and there are many more options. I'm sure there is a church that would not be too far from everyone that would agree to let us meet there for an hour or two on a Saturday. What would they have to lose? We'll see how the meeting next month goes. I really don't want to stop going, like the majority of people have. I have a desire to work with the chapter and with CMA, but if I'm not comfortable, why should I stay?
