Indoor herb gardening is one of the simplest and most rewarding gardening experiences you could ask for.
An indoor garden could be on your kitchen windowsill, a table on a patio, or even in your family room. With very minimum effort and cost you could plant an indoor herb garden.
Some good herbs for your indoor herb gardening are mint, thyme, rosemary, sage, parsley, chives and basil.
You could experiment with others, but since your herbs will be growing in a container, avoid those that grow too big.
How do you get started?
You could use a very big container for a several different herbs or choose individual pots to plant herbs separately. The easiest indoor herb gardening set could take as little as fifteen minutes to get started.
You will need the following to get going:
Herb seeds or plants?
The easiest way is to just buy the young herb plants from your local gardening store that carries them.
You might also be able to get them from a gardener who has some extra to spare. Alternately you could always begin from scratch and sow your own seeds and let them germinate.
Containers
Containers or pots used to grow the herb in, could be anywhere from three to fifteen inches deep.
Depending on whether or not you will be planting every herb individually, your containers could be as long as you like. Four to six inches long is excellent for individual plants. Once you have finished the planting you need to leave an inch or two of the top of the container free of soil to make watering easier.
Fertilizer
It might be necessary to give your herbs a bit of nutritional help with some
fertilizer once a month or every other month because they are being grown inside.
Potting soil
To avoid infestation of your indoor plants, you should not use garden soil for planting. It is better to get potting soil from your garden supply store. They will be able to advise you which is the best type of soil for each kind of herbs.
Because they are being grown in an indoor herb gardening environment, you must ensure that the plants
get the right amount of light to grow properly. Lastly, do not overdo water, as herbs generally do not like to keep
their roots too wet. Allow the soil to dry before watering again to ensure that you do not over water.
Your indoor herb gardening provide fresh herbs all year-round and add colours to the area it occupies.
Indoor herbs in a kitchen adds scent of fresh herb and is also quite comforting and homely.

(CBS) Ordering a medium popcorn and soda combo from a major national movie theater chain is the equivalent of eating three McDonald’s Quarter Pounders with 12 pats of butter, according to a new study by the Center for Science in the Public Interest.
According to laboratory analysis conducted by the Center for Science and Public Interest (CSPI), the concessions from Regal, the country’s biggest movie chain, have 1,160 calories and three days worth – 60 grams – of fat. Regal said that the medium popcorn had 720 calories and the large had 960, but CSPI’s tests found those numbers to be understated. A small popcorn at Regal had 670 calories – the same as a Pizza Hut Personal Pepperoni Pan Pizza. Even if you share a small popcorn – it’s still about a day’s worth of saturated fat per person, according to CSPI.
“It’s hard enough for Americans to maintain a healthy weight even when limiting their eating to breakfast, lunch, and dinner,” said CSPI senior nutritionist Jayne Hurley. “Who realizes that they might be taking in a meal’s worth of calories during a movie? Splitting a medium popcorn with two other people sounds like a reasonable thing to do, but who would think they’re getting an entire day’s worth of saturated fat?”
The study is published in December’s Nutrition Action Healthletter, and updates research CSPI conducted 15 years ago.
I came across a blog post about tithing while getting out of debt and it reminded me of a subject that I think many credit counselors get wrong, recommending that consumers stop tithing when facing financial problems.
Tithing is an act of faith or belief and it should never be about a fair weather gesture that you only engage in when times are good.

Buckwheat Zydeco (born Stanley Dural, Jr. on November 14, 1947) is an American accordionist and zydeco performer. He is one of the few to achieve mainstream success.
In 1971, he founded Buckwheat & the Hitchhikers, a funk band that he led for five years before switching to zydeco. He began backing Clifton Chenier, one of the most legendary zydeco performers. He set out on his own with The Ils Sont Partis Band; they debuted with One for the Road in 1979 and were nominated for a Grammy Award for “Turning Point” and “Ya Ya” (1985) after switching to the Rounder Records label. He soon signed to Island Records, and became the first zydeco act on a major label, and released On a Night Like This, a critically acclaimed album that was nominated for a Grammy as well. The band soon appeared in The Big Easy.
During the 1990s, Buckwheat Zydeco was less commercially successful than before, and switched labels frequently. However, the band remains a popular live draw, and continues recording today. Buckwheat’s latest album, Lay Your Burden Down, was released on May 5, 2009 on the Alligator Records label.
His especially powerful and haunting version of the classic “Cryin’ in the Streets” appears on the benefit album for Hurricane Katrina recovery, “Our New Orleans: A Benefit Album for the Gulf Coast.”

2 teaspoons plus 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1/2 cup carrot or diced red bell pepper
1 large boneless, skinless chicken breast (about 8 ounces), cut into quarters
1 large clove garlic, minced
5 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
1 1/2 teaspoons dried marjoram
6 ounces baby spinach, coarsely chopped
1 15-ounce can cannellini beans or great northern beans, rinsed
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup lightly packed fresh basil leaves
Freshly ground pepper to taste
3/4 cup plain or herbed multigrain croutons for garnish (optional)
PREPARATION
Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add carrot (or bell pepper) and chicken; cook, turning the chicken and stirring frequently, until the chicken begins to brown, 3 to 4 minutes. Add garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 minute more. Stir in broth and marjoram; bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through, about 5 minutes.
With a slotted spoon, transfer the chicken pieces to a clean cutting board to cool. Add spinach and beans to the pot and bring to a gentle boil. Cook for 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
Combine the remaining 1 tablespoon oil, Parmesan and basil in a food processor (a mini processor works well). Process until a coarse paste forms, adding a little water and scraping down the sides as necessary.
Cut the chicken into bite-size pieces. Stir the chicken and pesto into the pot. Season with pepper. Heat until hot. Garnish with croutons, if desired.
This old fashioned Pennsylvania German recipe for making Springerle is taken from the book “Mary At The Farm And Book Of Recipes Compiled During Her Visit Among The ‘Pennsylvania Germans’” by Edith M. Thomas, printed by John Hartenstine, Norristown, Pennsylvania, in 1915.
Beat whites and yolks of eggs separately, mix with sugar and beat well. Add flour until you have a smooth dough. Roll out pieces of dough, which should be half an inch thick. Press the dough on a floured form or mold, lift the mold, cut out the cakes thus designed and let lie until next day on a floured bread board.
The next day grease pans well, sprinkle anise seed over the pans in which the cakes are to be baked; lay in cakes an inch apart and bake in a moderate oven to a straw color. The form used usually makes six impressions or cakes 1-1/2 inches square, leaving the impression of a small figure or flower on surface when dough is pressed on form.
