Getting Thru The Holiday Season In a Loving Manner

Goodmorning!

Today I thought I would write about some practical skills to perhaps use during the holiday season. Some people are just hard to get along with and yet you must spend time with them . There is nothing worse than having an awkward get together when times are supposed to be joyous.

Interpersonal effectiveness skills help in this area. Since the holidays are all about love and cheer probably the best skill to use would be Relationship Effectiveness called GIVE. Interpersonal effectiveness skills can take alot of distress tolerance skills such as radical acceptance, improving the moment, and self soothe. For instance if someone is coming to your house you aren't compatible with you have to radically accept that they are coming no matter what ...what is is. Then you can help yourself out by cheerleading yourself " I can do this. I can tolerate this. I can show hospitality and respect for the family." Or you can ask for help thru prayer. You can put on your favorite music and one mindfully prepare and decorate and serve.

Then you can use GIVE. This is what GIVE looks like.....

Be Gentle
Act Interested
Validate
Easy Manner

This is hard to do sometimes but never impossible. We have to get past our pride. Besides it is a loving gesture. Love is not faint heartedness it is bold and courageous. Love is strength and freedom.

Hope you all have a nice weekend...take care now and God bless....

November is rolling on by....
"November comes
And November goes.
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.

With night coming early,
and dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.

The fires burn,
And the kettles sing,

And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.

Hi Friends...

I found this lovely little poem yesterday and thought I would share it.
It has sure gotten chilly around here and it feels like we are at the point of no return when it comes to winter fast approaching.  The time is coming  to start getting the ice scrapper out and to warming up the car.

I have been wanting to put up the Christmas decorations but Dad wants to have Thanksgiving here instead of my sisters so I kind of want to keep the autumnal decor up until after the big dinner. I may change my mind over the weekend though...Dad said that he would be happy for me to put up the decor anytime.

When we lose one blessing, another is often most unexpectedly given in its place.

Before I go I have listed some friends shops in my side column for visitors to visit. If for some reason anybody needs me to change anything or remove your site just let me know. I am happy to add shops on my site for others to promote holiday shopping.

Have a great day now and God Bless....

Cranberries with a Twist..

Hi Friends!

I came across this recipe and thought I would share it for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

Cranberry Gelatin Salad

Ingredients

1 (16 ounce) can jellied cranberry sauce

1 (16.5 ounce) can pitted dark sweet cherries, drained

10 1/2 ounces crushed pineapple with juice

1 (6 ounce) package cherry gelatin

2 cups boiling water

1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

1.In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the cranberry sauce.

2.Cut the cherries into pieces and add them to the melted sauce. Stir in the pineapple with its juice. Remove mixture from heat.

3.In a medium bowl pour the boiling water over the gelatin. And stir until all the gelatin has dissolved.

4.Add the gelatin mixture to the cranberry mixture and stir. Stir in the optional nuts. Pour into a 9x13 inch pan and chill until set.

This is supposed to be very delicious even for the person who isn't a big cranberry lover.

I think I will definitely make this one for my family!

Today I am grateful for being a deep thinker. I enjoy thinking about our humanly existance and what that all means to me. This enriches my life greatly and I feel blessed.

Have a blessed day all.....

Reading is a Blessing...

Hi Friends..

Well yesterday I sent out my first paperback swap book. It was a Phylis A. Whitney book called "Mystery of The Isle of Skye". First of all I just love Phylis Whitney and have found that I can find her books occasionally at the Goodwill. Most of them I hang onto for myself but this one was more of a children's mystery and not my style. I just finished one of her books yesterday called "The Glass Flame".  So anyways I got a book credit for sending out the "Isle of Skye" book and with that book credit I ordered " The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. The last book I ordered was "The Seduction of Water" by Carol Goodman and I really enjoyed it. I am finding that I use paperback swap for books that I would normally buy in a bookstore. And what is really great about paperback swap is that the book really only cost me 2.43 (the cost of shipping the "Isle" book).

Go over and check them out if you are interested in swaping your paperbacks by clicking here:

Thanks again Niki for putting this on your blog. I hope you got the credit for me joining under your name.

Now I also have been meaning to tell those who are interested in making the Grandma's Secret Recipe Old Fashioned Cream Pie that Milnot is a type of evaporated milk you get in the baking isle.  It has a particular taste that is absolutely essential in getting the flavor needed in that pie.

I will leave you with an Old Irish Blessing to enrich your day....

May love and laughter light your days,

and warm your heart and home.

May good and faithful friends be yours,

wherever you may roam.

May peace and plenty bless your world

with joy that long endures.

May all life's passing seasons

bring the best to you and yours....

God bless and keep you....

Brillant Shine...

Hi Friends..

Buster and I are thankful for your healing remedies to help his skin. I went out and bought him a dogfood called Natural Choice today that is made to help improve skin and coat. I also picked out some ointment called "wound care" that treats hotspots and infections...plus I plan to use some of the ideas you kind ladies have sent.

I ended up coloring my hair on Saturday and boy do I feel better! My hair is naturally medium-dark ash blonde and I had highlighted in earlier this summer. The roots had started to grow out and the regrowth was not blending in. So I decided to use a Demi-Permanent color to refresh and enhance my hair. Here is more information of Demi-Permanent.....(thanks to wiki-depia)

Demi-Permanent hair color

Demi-permanent hair color is, in fact, permanent hair color that contains an alkaline agent other than ammonia (e.g., ethanolamine, sodium carbonate) and, while always employed with a developer, the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in that developer may be lower than used with a permanent hair color. Since the alkaline agents employed in dem-perms are less effective in removing the natural pigment of hair than ammonia these product provide little to no lightening of hair's color during dyeing. As the result, they cannot color hair to a lighter shade than it was before dyeing and are less damaging to hair than their permanent counterpart.

Demi-permanents are much more effective at covering gray hair than semi-permanents, but less so than permanents.

Demi-permanents have several advantages as compared with permanent color. Because there is essentially no lifting (i.e., removal) of natural hair color, the final color is less uniform/homogeneous than a permanent and therefore more natural looking; they are gentler on hair and therefore safer, especially for damaged hair; and they wash out over time (typically 20 to 28 shampoos), so root regrowth is less noticeable and if a change of color is desired, it is easier to achieve.
