Thank you, Mr. Obvious, er, Ortiz, I would have never made the connection
A-Rod has as many homers as you and he did it on his first AB. On his first pitch. You Douche.
Quote from David Ortiz after he hit his first homerun in 150 at bats last night:
“I wasn’t really worried about homers as much as I was worried about getting my swing back,” Ortiz said. “I know when my swing’s there, the homers (are) going to come.”
Really.
Wow.
Deep thoughts with Big Papi. Obviously his brain is not what they were talking about. So you’re saying that if you are swinging your bat correctly that you can hit home runs? Wow. That’s been my whole problem for so many years that I haven’t been doing. My swing coach is SO fired.
Last season, Ortiz played in 109 games. He was paid 13.25 million dollars. He had his lowest totals ever playing for the Boston Red Sox, hitting 23 HR. This season he has 1 HR and 17 RBI. He is being paid 13 million. Let’s break some numbers down here, shall we?
Ortiz had 416 ABs last year. He was paid then almost $32,000 per AB in 2008. In 2009, we are approximately 25% through the season. He has 130 AB this year, which means he has been paid $25,000 per AB this year. In terms of hits, he had 110 in ‘08, equaling 120,000 per hit. This year, he has 27 hits, equaling 120,700 per hit. Hmm…not much difference there. So what about power numbers, which are the real reason he gets paid more than I will ever dream of making in my entire life…..
HR in 2008: 23 (576,000 per HR)
HR in 2009: 1 (3,250,000 per HR)
RBIs in 2008: 89 (148,876 per RBI)
RBIs in 2009: 17 (191, 176 per RBI)
Yeah. Ok. I’m sorry for thinking that Ortiz is the dumbass here. I think the brass at Boston should be wearing their dunce caps now…and until “his swing is there” and gets better every day–which again, no brainer here–a PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYER should be able to do, the Red Sox look like the real losers here.

Chalk of the Day: Los Angeles Dodgers (-141) over New York Mets
Come On, Chad, I need you..seriously.
Well, being that the day is almost over, this is kind of like Chalk of the rest of the night. This is certainly not something that I am absolutely ecstatic about, but riding a 2 game losing streak, I gotta hope at this point. If it wasn’t for the damn Cubs basically handing over the game to the Astros, perhaps I would be back on a winning streak. Whatever. Wah..wah..wah-f**king-wah.
Dodgers–Chad Billingsley
Mets–John Maine
Trends of note for this game:
Mets are 0-5 in their last 5 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Dodgers are 4-0 in Billingsleys last 4 starts when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Dodgers are 5-0 in Billingsleys last 5 starts after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Dodgers are 7-1 in Billingsleys last 8 starts with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
Dodgers are 7-1 in Billingsleys last 8 starts.
Dodgers are 7-1 in Billingsleys last 8 starts on grass.
Dodgers are 7-1 in Billingsleys last 8 starts as a favorite.
Dodgers are 6-1 in Billingsleys last 7 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance.
Dodgers are 5-1 in Billingsleys last 6 starts during game 2 of a series.
Dodgers are 5-1 in Billingsleys last 6 starts as a home favorite.
Dodgers are 5-1 in Billingsleys last 6 starts with 4 days of rest.
The thing is–the Mets have some good trends with Maine in this scenario, and that makes it kind of shaky for me. Nonetheless, I am taking the Dodgers yet again. Of course, my trend so far is picking a team for the second time equals loss. If I lose, at least I’ll be consistent, if not broke.

Chalk of the Day: Chicago Cubs (-210) over Houston Astros
Alright, getting this under the deadline, gotta hurry so that people don’t think I am post-posting.
Cubs are an overwhelming favorite. Rich Harden is on the mound, Brian Moehler for Houston–with an almost 9.00 ERA, plus the Cubs have been on a roll overall and at home. Harden has pitched well at home and while the value of this bet isn’t great, it still should pay off (better than zero!).
And th-th-th-that’s all, folks.
 Awww...sookie sookie!

Chalk of the Day: Kansas City Royals (-122) over Baltimore Orioles
It’s official. The apocalypse is upon us. I just picked the Royals as the best chalk of the remaining day. If I would have made time earlier, I would have gone back to back with the Cubs, who did win again 11-3. But, again, hindsight is 20/20, right?
Anyways, back to the discussion. KC is throwing cagey veteran Gil Meche, and while he is 2-3, he has some great trends for this game: they are 4-0 in his last 4 starts after a team loss, 7-1 with him on the mound with the O/U set at 7-8.5, 4-1 with him against a team with a losing record at home, 9-2 in his last 11 home starts. The Royals as a team are 11-2 in their last 13 as a home favorite, 8 out of last 10 at home against teams with losing records, and there are a ton more obvious ones that point to KC doing very well tonight.
Normally I would really only take Kansas City if Zack Greinke was rockin’ and firin’, but this one looked too good to pass up for the value.

Chalk of the Day: Chicago Cubs (-156) over San Diego Padres
Well, I took my first lump officially with the COTD and it dropped my units into the negative. So it’s time to reverse that and get things close to the break even point again. Believe me, I understand that when I am picking overwhelming faves, it’s not about win-loss, rather the units-so losses are killers. Perhaps that means I should not have taken the Jays at -105. Whatever. It’s over and I lost. I GET IT.
Any team that has a player named Fuk-u-do-me has my respect.
Today, I’m putting my chalk on the Cubbies. With Ted Lilly on the mound, the Cubs are 8-2 in his last 10 starts. They are also 4-1 when the Cubs are favored over -151. On the offensive side, Chicago is 8-0 against starters with WHIPs over 1.30, 7-0 in their last seven as a fave, and it goes from there. Conversely, the Padres have some pretty glaring trends as well. They are 0-4 in their last 4 against a lefty, 5-25 their last 30 Wednesday games, 4-17 in their last 21 overall, 3-12 in the last 15 with Chris Young as their starter against a team over .500, and so on and so forth.
It seems one sided, doesn’t it? Well, it should be. The Cubs are starting to play much better than they started the year, and it may be a bit chilly on the northside today–giving even more substantiation to Lilly being able to shut them down.
Hey Hey whattya say, Chicago’s gonna win today….They BETTER.

Floyd pays the most money ever to hold the Mayo.
Hey Brotha, can you spare a million? Obviously, yes.
Alright, cheesy, I know. Bite me.
I just read a report about USC Basketball Coach Tim Floyd “allegedly” giving some money to a “runner” basically in advance of O.J. Mayo coming to USC. The person in receipt of the dough, Louis Johnson, apparently was part of Mayo’s “boys” and had significant influence in his decision-making.
I say “allegedly” in the sense that I “allegedly” have an anger management problem. Whatevs. Screw you all!
If you’ve read up on this already, you know that Johnson basically gave up more details than what I remember from my first OR second wedding day. Not that I really want to, mind you. Anyways, with all of this information flowing out there, the NCAA obviously is looking deeeeeep into USC and Floyd’s behavior.
Like this revelation is even a revelation at all. Come on. Mayo was the highest touted recruit in the world, and he went to f**king USC? Across the street from UCLA, who has the tradition and had one of the best programs in the country? Hmmm…now that’s a mystery! People were praising Mayo for his choice since he would obviously be the man and Floyd obviously had recruiting clout. Wow..I almost said that without laughing. Oh well.
Let’s face it. There’s been “alleged” stories of all kinds of big name recruits getting passed money, cars, etc. under the table. There’s been movies about it (”Johnny Be Good”, “Blue Chips”), there’s been stories about it, there’s been championships stripped, and yet the same thing happens over and over and over–money talks and bullshit walks. Players go where they have the life of a professional player and that’s all there is to it. We’ll never get to the point where players will be paid to play, but they might as well. Of course, if they did, that would give me less to write about.
My question is this–how in the F**K is USC Athletic Director Mike Garrett still sucking air in the SoCal administration? Yes, his football program is one of the best–probably ever when it’s all said and done. But when the cards finally fall with the Mayo situation, it will be the second major recruiting snafu and non-institutional control issue that has garnered major attention in less than 5 years (the other was Reggie Bush who received pretty much everything under the sun). Yes, Floyd is in hot water–even after he cockily tried to kick tires at other universities–but Garrett should be held responsible as well.
