Crush the Castle: Design and share your Castle!
Crush the Castle was released last week and has unleashed a true hype. Destoying castles with different types of ammunition has never been so exciting. Even more addictive is the level editor where players can create their own castles to detroy with their trebuchet. Incredibly it never gets boring and dull to see those walls collapsing after a well aimed slingshot.
The game has had over a million unique gameplays and its popularity comes as a bit of a surprise. Player made levels can be found all over the internet and it looks like the game will survive for quite some time as the replay value is high. Now that this formula has proven itself once again, we might be seeing a sequel in the near future to deliver even more trebuchet destruction.
Register now and post your favourite self-made levels in the comments section of this article! Be creative and amaze others with your castles, whether it’s an inpenetrable fort or an instable mess. Try some other creations before starting to work on your own masterpiece for inspiration.
During development the game was named trebuchet and is a remake of the game Castle Clout. You can read our up on earlier preview or release announcement of the game.

Prepare for Warfare 1944
Plenty of good news from developer Con Artist lately. Shortly after releasing Crush the Castle they’ve made the first details about their sequel to Warfare 1917 public and there’s plenty to be excited about.
The World War II sequel to Warfare 1917, Warfare 1944 aims to bring the Warfare series to another level. Rising out of the trenches and onto the battlefield of Normandy, Warfare 1944 sees the U.S Army take on the German Wermacht. Gameplay has been overhauled giving a more strategic and in-depth experience than that of the first game. New unit types, support mechanics and a resource system will dramatically change the way the Warfare series is played.
The bew features include a 3 flank deployment system, new resource based unit production more in line with traditional real-time strategy games, new mission types including defence and objective based missions, all new campaigns and skirmish maps and brand new upgrade trees. Furthermore, players will be introduced to new units in the form of bazooka teams, mortar teams and medics. Units now have a level of interaction not seen in the first game, the type of units you have deployed will have a great impact on what options are available to you. New gear such as grenades, smoke mortars as well as new abilities will be available in the upgrades menu and deployable at your will on the battlefield.
Officer units on both teams have been been given the responsibility of managing all large fire support. Rather than just calling in an artillery strike, you will need an officer on the ground to spot out your target before unleashing destruction. Support weapons include paratroopers, artillery, air support and smoke rounds.
Moving out of the trenches and into the open means that your troops will need cover. With three possible flanks to deploy your troops on, you’ll need to make decisions about which path has the best cover for your units. Cover is graded depending on what it is made of and affects how well protected your units will be. Stone walls are nearly always the better option than hiding behind that rickety fence.
Last but not least, expected release will be somewhere coming June. Warfare 1944 will surely be a milestone in free online flash gaming history considering the new features and the reputation of developer Con Artist. More details and screenshots will be coming soon!

A Small Favor Beta
Developer Zeebarf announced on its blog that their latest space game called A Small Favor is done and ready for beta testing. They’re also working on Reemus Chapter 3 which was due for a late April release.
Since A Small Favor is a fairly complex game compared to their earlier work they will need some gameplay testers to run through the game and report any bugs or glitches. A Small Favor will allow the player to make decisions that will affect the outcome of the story, making the experience richer according to Zeebarf. We’ll have to wait a bit longer for details about the gameplay and screenshots of this space themed game.
Only members of the Zeebarf newsletter will be asked to beta test their new games. If you aren’t already a member of their mailing list, you can join here. Furthermore, apparently Reemus 3 isn’t far behind and should be out shortly after as well. Stay tuned!

Vector Boom announced
Developer Hero Interactive just announced a new action game named Vector Boom. This news follows shortly after the release of their latest game, Pirate Defense. In Vector Boom you need to protect your base, which is a space station, from a coming onslaught of space ships with you in their sights.
Use your mouse to click and drag forming circles around the enemy spaceships, letting your space station know where to attack. You won’t be shooting at them with pitiful little guns this time. Once the circle is drawn your station sends out a massive missile annihilating anything in your chosen area. Different kinds of space ships have different strengths and weaknesses so be alert, upgrade your space station as much as you can, and get ready for some huge explosions!
Vector Boom will be developed alongside other projects. Hero Interactive will be using their increased staff numbers to develop it while working on Bubble Tanks Arenas. More information about Vector Boom will become available in the following weeks, so stay tuned!

Crush the Castle
Armor Games have released their newest game called Crush the Castle. During development the game was named trebuchet and is a remake of the game Castle Clout. You can read our earlier preview of the game published a few weeks back.
There are some differences to the original plan. Upgrades cannot be bought and instead they are unlocked as the player advances through the levels. The gameplay is very simple but addictive and the levels are fun and challenging. The trebuchet is controlled by two mouse clicks and the level is cleared once you destroy all the inhabitants of the castle. Upon finishing all the levels you unlock the level editor and this adds another few hours to the game’s lifespan.
Hopefully now that this game is done developer Con Artist can focus on The Last Stand 3 and the sequal to Warfare 1917. There has been no news on these two games for a while and we hope to hear about them somewhere the coming weeks.

Desktop Tower Defense Pro
Desktop Tower Defense Pro has been released and offers far more new features than was anticipated. Version 1.9 as it was originally called was announced five months ago by developer Hand Drawn Games and since it had been silent around this awaited update.
Pro features new game modes such as a sandbox mode and various preset scenarios. During these scenarios you’re faced with limitations to what you can build or the towers have already been placed. There’s a brand new multiplayer mode where you can play against other players from all around the world. Furthermore, the game has received a total art make-over, including new tower animations and icons and it looks better than ever before.
Since Desktop Tower Defense was first released it has been a major hit. It launched the defense game hype and although hundreds of spin-offs tried to imitate it, only very few succeeded. It has had over 30 million gameplays and is one of the most successful free flashgame ever. Since its release there have been various version updates, improving various aspects of the game.

Pirate Defense released
Pirate Defense has just been released by developer Hero Interactive. Over the past few weeks we’ve brought multiple updates and gameplay features regarding this tower defense game and now we can finally play it. The game gives a completely new twist to the defense genre and now its up to the players to cast their vote and rank it.
Instead of just towers, players will be using a combination of triggers and traps to defeat waves of angry pirates. Triggers can for instance push pirates a few tiles to the right into a pitfall. The bigger these contraptions, the more points awarded for every pirate defeated. Traditional tower defense elements like cannons and arrows are still present to complement the traps. Sounds good, but the time has come to put it to the test!
Hero Interactive will soon know how their new concept is received by players. Play it for yourself and leave a comment with your thoughts on Pirate Defense!

Questionaut in the Spotlight
During the Flash Gaming Summit 2009 last March, there were over 7000 games nominated in several categories for the Mochi Awards. All of the winning games are special in their own way, but some haven’t received the deserved attention. This especially applies to Questionaut by Amanita Design. The game won the award for Best Game Art and for a good reason.
Journey through strange worlds and test your knowledge of English, Maths and Science on this magical mission to recover your friend’s hat. In essence it’s a point and click adventure with a quiz in every stage. The art and animation are phenomenal and every level surprises with its unique characters, feel and look. The target audience might be children and the questions have an educational purpose, but it would be a shame to overlook all the other aspects Questionaut has to offer.
It was released last year and since the Mochi Awards it has been discovered by the more mainstream audience. Much can be said about this game but it’s easier to see for yourself!

Gemcraft: The Day After
Gemcraft Chapter Zero: Gem of Eternity has been out for three full days and its time to make up a balance. To begin with numbers, the game has had over half a million gameplays and the average rating is just over a 9.4 which is not bad at all. Most comments are very positive and there seems to be a consensus on the increased difficulty level.
Of course, we have finished the game as well and we are very pleased with the result to say the least. The increased diffculty makes the game more challenging and rewarding. There are plenty of levels and every stage has atleast eight different modes with an unlockable never-ending mode after finishing the story for the first time. There’s plenty of replay value with all the different modes for every stage and everything is looking and feeling very polished. The implications of the new gameplay elements are not as big as we expected, but the traps and beacons are a pleasant addition to the game. The plot is simple but exciting enough to keep you interested in what might come next and explains the events before Gemcraft Chapter One: The Forgotten.
Developer Game in a Bottle can be proud with their latest product. They have been busy since its launch and have updated to v1.01 shortly after the initial release, fixing a few issues like broken hotkeys. At this rate, the game is heading to a record number of unique gameplays in no time. If you haven’t played this gem of a game yet, make sure to do so!

Sonny 2 receives extra content
Version 2.0 has been released for Sonny 2 and it brings more maps, items and challenges for players who finished the story-mode. If you thought the original was difficult to complete, wait till you’ve played this! Sonny 2 is one of the biggest online flash games with over 20 million unique gameplays and with version 2.0 this number will surely grow.
There are two new zones available and its the equivalent of the bonus zone in the original Sonny. There’s not much of a story or voiced dialogue, but there is a lot of challenge for you and your character. Even those of you who have level 30 characters saved will find it tough. The newly added zone 6 can only be accessed after defeating the game on either challenging or heroic mode and includes new sets of items and four new bosses. Furthermore, there is a secret zone with the four hardest bosses in the game.
Can you defeat the Hydra without damaging him directly? Are you able to win against Clemons solo? Think you can beat the game on Heroic without using a single training fight or repeating a single boss battle? One wrong purchase or re-spec could be the end of you! New and challenging achievements have been implemented and you can keep track of all the crazy things you try to do!
There have also been some minor bug and balance fixes. Psycho class can’t pull the Shock Coma trick anymore, because it made the game too easy. Also the Hydra fight has been made a bit easier for certain elements.
