University of Indiana Bicycle Jersey
How Could We Not Put Indiana University On This Page?
Anybody who rides has probably seen the 1979 movie "Breaking Away". If you have not seen it here is a short synopsis of it:

Local cyclist in a small town (townies aka "cutters"), lives, eats, and breathes cycling and everything else Italian, comes of age in a race against college kids. Based on Dave Blaze, and his experiences at Indiana University and the Little 500.

Of course, the movie is set against the annual Little 500 bicycle race that is still held today at Indiana University. If you have not seen the movie, rent it. It is dated but it really is a good movie. In honor of Indiana University, I am including the Indiana University college bicycle jersey and the link to purchase it is just below.

Honoring Our Service Academies with Their College Bicycle Jerseys
Honoring Our Service Academies
I got into a kick a few months ago where each month I bought a Service Academy Bicycle Jersey. The first one I bought was Army and the only reason I picked them first is because my son-in-law is an Army National Guard Recruiter.

Then I picked Air Force because I have visited it in Colorado Springs and it is absolutely beautiful. You know, when I think of great places to ride a bicycle Colorado Springs is at the top of the list. It is absolutely gorgeous. Ride there if you ever get a chance. Of course, a flat lander like me struggles on the hills and mountains you will encounter in Colorado Springs.

Finally, the Naval Academy is just plain strikingly beautiful. I really like riding in this jersey when I want to feel strong because there is just something about it that makes me feel that way.

A Bicycle Story
A Bit Off Topic But Still About Bicycles
I used to live near Carlsbad, New Mexico. My house was just one mile off of the highway and, once you got to the highway you have miles of just highway either way you chose to go. One day I chose to go toward Artesia which was about 25 miles from my house. The terrain is very slight rolling hills for the first few miles and then basically flat desert.

I came over a hill about 3 miles from my house when I noticed a mini-van on the side of the road and a man standing next to it. As I apporoached it, I realized that the man had a blow out. I rode up to the man and asked him if he needed any help. He told me he had a flat tire and wasn't sure what to do. I offered him my cell phone but he said he had nobody to call because he was from Massachusetts.

His blown out tire was all over the road as the radials had blown up and spread all across the highway as he came to a stop. It was a mess. I told him I could ride home and get my vehicle and come back and pick him and his wife and baby up. I would take them to my house and then he and I could go to town and take care of his tire. His wife was especially appreciative and told me that God would bless me for my kindness.

The wind was especially strong and it was at my back as I rode home so it only took me about 9 minutes to get home. I got my keys and drove back immediately. It had only been 15 minutes since I left the man and his family. As I came over the hill where I found them I noticed that they were gone. I drove up to the area where they were and got out of my van. Not only were they gone but there was no evidence that they were ever there. The steel belts that were strewn all across the rode were gone too.

I found this to be very strange. I guess someone could have helped them in the 15 minutes I was gone, but why would they clean up every bit of the steel belts that were spread alll over the highway. Nobody does that.

I drove home and told my wife what had happened and she told me that she thinks I was tested by an angel and that is why the road was clean when I returned. She felt that they weren't really real. It was an angelic presence.

I am not sure what happened but I know that I had never experienced anything like that before.

So what do you think? Do you think it was possible I encountered angels who were testing me or did I dream this whole thing? Leave me your Brigham Young University Bicycle Jersey.

Texas Tech Bicycling Jersey
I did say that I do not choose college bicycle jerseys because of loyalty but then I have the Texas Tech bicycle jersey featured. Yes, I do live in Lubbock, Texas, home of Texas Tech and I do love the Red Raiders very much but that is not the reason I have that jersey featured up top.

You see, if you have ever been to Lubbock you would know that it is not great bicycle country. The only way you can ride hills in Lubbock is to find an on ramp from the freeway that rises a little because Lubbock, Texas is flat flat flat. Of course, for those who live in Lubbock who are reading this, there are hills nearby such as in Ransom Canyon or the Buffalo Springs area, but most people who are not from Lubbock would never know about those places.

When you think of bicycle riding, I figure that Lubbock would probably be the last place you would think of, yet I often see people riding their bicycles out on the many country roads near Lubbock and many of them have this cool looking jersey on. That is why I have Texas Tech featured.

College Bicycling Jerseys
I love bicycling and I really like collecting unique jerseys. One of my favorite things is to buy one college bicycle jersey per month. That means that I end up with 12 jerseys a year. I have been doing this now for 3 years. I have 36 jerseys now, but some of them are worn out and need to be replaced. I want to tell you about some of my favorite and I am hoping you will tell me about your favorites too.

My Absolute Number 1 Favorite College Bicycle Jersey Is.........
UCLA Bicycle Jersey
I grew up in the 1960's and 1970's. I was a huge basketball fan and the UCLA Bruins were a dynasty. John Wooden had created a team that was so strong that everybody else started the season knowing they were playing to see who would be #2 because the Bruins were going to win the championship every year, and it seemed like they won it every year.

It wasn't until many years later that I started riding a bicycle to stay in shape. Pretty soon, that desire to get in shape turned into an obsession. I started touring across states, riding 100 miles every weekend, and I always looked forward to riding in the Wichita Falls, Texas Hotter N Hell Hundred which is North America's largest bicycle event.

When you become obsessed with riding, it is important to wear the right equipment. Bicycle shorts and jerseys are a must because of the comfort and breathability needed on a bicycle. Style becomes important too. The style I chose was college bicycle jerseys.

The first jersey I bought was a UCLA bicycle jersey. I wore it out so I bought a new one and decided to pick another one. Then, I started buying a different jersey each month until I now have 3 dozen of them.

I attended New Mexico State University but, believe it or not, I have never owned a NMSU jersey. It's not about loyalty with me. I pick jerseys because I think they are cool looking or because of a color preference. The mood I am in on the day I buy the jersey is what matters. If I wait a day, my choice may change. I don't know why I am like that. I just do it that way.

Here is a list of my 5 favorite jerseys.
