Draperies for Sale

They are cream and grey stripe - beautiful! Swatches available upon request. The great price is due to an "oops, we made them the wrong length". Please visit our website @ www.stewart-richards.com for more details.

The New Way To Do Sheers
The days of white, slippery, shiny sheers are pretty much gone. These days we are still doing sheers on windows but with a much more updated look. Fabrics for sheer panels not only come in a wide assortment of colors, but also lots of textures, patterns and combinations of textures and sheer fabric. The fabrics are so wonderful that they can often stand alone without draperies! Check out some of the new trends on our web site www.stewart-richards.com.

Simplify
Hi all! Today's trends in lifestyles is to simplify. The same is the trend in window coverings. Simpiler window treatments compliment today's lifestyles. That doesn't mean sacrifice on quality. Quality window treaments are essential to a beautiful room. Some popluar drapery styles are the gromment top, the box pleat and the tuxedo style. Check out our web site @ www.stewart-richards.com for the newest styles and trends!

Quality Counts
Saving money and getting bargains is important to most of us. Window treatments is not the place to do that. Nothing makes a room like great window treatments. Invest in quality draperies and shades. Have them made with a quality lining and interling for a full plush look. Don't scrimp on fabric, window treatments really make a room! Please visit us at www.stewart-richards.com.

Drapery Lengths

Many tend to purchase and mount  draperies too short . Always make sure your draperies touch the floor.  In fact, they look more elegant when they have a 1” (or more) puddle onto the floor. Please visit us at www.stewart-richards.com.

Mounting Drapery Hardware

* Mount drapery panels a few inches below the ceiling. This technique draws your eye up, making lower ceilings appear taller.

* Hang treatments above a transom window, rather than under it, so that they don't cut off the window.

* To make a small window appear wider, place panels outside the window frame. Please visit us at www.stewart-richards.com.

Drapery Lining
Drapery linings do make a difference.A good quality drapery is lined and interlined. Interlining is a soft felt like fabric that goes between the face fabric and the lining. The heavier weight of a lined fabric hangs better, providing a fuller, unwrinkled effect. It also offers greater shape retention to the face fabric. And, perhaps most important, linings can protect the face fabric from moisture and sun damage, considerably extending its life span.

Wood Drapery Hardware
It is often difficult to open and close draperies that are mounted with wood poles and rings, especially if they are heavy (very long or lined and interlined). The solution is simple; just rub a waxed based furniture polish along the top0 of the wood pole, they will slide open and closed with ease!

Designing
I am just beginning to work on a design for a new customer. The room is a dining room with very high ceilings. It is a very old New Orleans home, really beautiful. The client does not want anything traditional. This is going to be a challange to fit the house and please the client at the same time. Visit us at www.stewart-richards.com

Sheers
Today we worked on some sheers. Sheers are really difficult to get perfectly straight beacuse the fabric is so slippery. We have found that by pulling a thread through we can get a straight line and go from there. It makes sewing sheers so much easier. Visit us at www.stewart-richards.com

Draperies
Today our seamstresses finished up the most recent phase of a hotel job we have been working on. It included bed skirts, throws for the bed, pinch pleat draperies, sheers, and valances. Next week we will begin the final set of rooms, 11 rooms. Visit us at www.stewart-richards.com

Draperies
Just getting in to work today. It feels great to be back. While I was away my seamstresses experimented with some new drapery designs. They did a great job. Jody chose a beautiful light blue dupioni silk to work with. It has small inverted pleats at the top. Very different, very beautiful. Visit us at www.stewart-richards.com

Returning
Hi All,
I have just returned from my vacation and I am so inspired! I can't wait to get into the workroom tomorrow. I spent a week in Arizona and was really inspired by the colors of the desert. I want to get out the silk fabrics in the earthy colors. Especially the orangy rust tones. I am also thinking of some embroidery inspired by the cactus. I am not sure how that will take shape but I am very excited to find out!Visit us at www.stewart-richards.com
