Motordrome Pine Lasky Fall Fest

The Pine Lasky Fall Fest at Motordrome, which was scheduled as a two day event, turned out to be a one day affair when steady rain on Friday October 2nd canceled all activities and pushed them all into Saturday. Glenn Jr. pulled out of Hubbard with the racing hauler at 5:30AM bright and early with the #32 to be able to arrive in time to prepare the car at Motordrome for the days activities which involved two practice sessions, qualifying through 2 hot laps, and then the feature.

After the practice sessions Glenn Jr. said the car felt really good and he was confident it would race well.
Qualifying was next and Glenn Jr was set to go out 2nd in the 26 car field. His best lap was the second lap at 17.99.

The redraw for the top 12 drivers for position took place in the frontstretch prior to the start of the Features.

Glenn Jr. drew tenth and was able to maintain his starting start for the race.
Glenn had the crew make very few adjustments after qualifying prior to the race.
Twenty six cars started the feature with driver intros on the frontstretch prior to the command to start engines and pace laps. After three attempts at a complete lap without a caution the race finally went green and Glenn Jr was 6th at that time. That was short lived as on lap 2 the caution flag again flew when Glenn Jr. found himself in an unavoidable situation where he made contact with the #9 of Will Thomas that sent Will spinning. Glenn was assessed a penalty that sent him to the tail end of the longest line putting him in 19th. the race then had a long green flag run. Glenn Jr. got himself into a good rhythm and went to work passing cars and was up to 18th on lap 23.
Motordrome Oct 09 029
The Leader was working his way through the field as well and was lapping positions quickly. Glenn Jr. managed to stay ahead of the leader until lap 45 when he went a lap down. However he remained in position for the “Lucky Dog” which is right behind the leader, so when the caution flag flew on lap 48 this made him eliglble for the lead lap. Unfortunately the officials asked him to have the car checked for a leak. Glenn Jr. pulled into the pit and a rear end gear oil leak was discovered ending his race for the night.
Glenn Jr. said he liked the way the car was handling despite the frustration of the early ending. So for all the fans of the #32 thanks for support and looking forward to next year. You can always check back here for all the updates from the track.

Lake Erie Speedway Championship Night

Glenn Jr. and the team pulled into Lake Erie Speedway to take the green flag for the last race of the NASCAR Whelen Racing season on Championship night for the track. The team was hopeful for a good night after finding a comfortable setup two weeks earlier. After practice the team made some final adjustments before the Heat race.LES Sept 5th 2009 002
Glenn Jr. went out in the first Heat Race in the 8th position of 9 car field with the normal 10 laps as the checkered flag distance. LES Sept 5th 2009 004
Only one caution flag slowed racing on lap 2 and Glenn was scored in 5th. Glenn took the checkered flag in 6th and brought the car in to the attention of the crew for changes before the feature.
LES Sept 5th 2009 031LES Sept 5th 2009 033
Glenn started the Feature from the 11th spot in a 16 car field. The first 19 laps ran caution free and laps 1-12 Glenn was making progress gaining positions moving into 7th, however between 12 and 19 it became evident that the car was starting to become a handful. Glenn was scored 9th at the lap 19 caution. The next caution would not come out till lap 31 and Glenn Jr. held on skillfully in race traffic till he could bring the car into the pits for adjustments on the lap 31 caution. Glenn came back out in 16th as the field took the Green on the other side of the track. Glenn raced hard for the remaining 9 laps and took the checkered flag in 16th. The finish not reflective of the effort and leaving Glenn Jr and the crew obviously disappointed about how things turned out. Obstacles are great incentives and so Glenn Jr and the team will be back. Check back here or out Twitter account for updates about when the next race will be for Glenn Jr.

Lake Erie Speedway Aug 22nd

LES Aug 22 2009 005
After a couple weeks of hard work back in the shop, Glenn Jr. and the crew were ready to go on Saturday night at Lake Erie Speedway. If any word would sum up what the evening would come down to, that word would be “patience.” Patience you say…we are racing a heat race and feature right?
Well after a long day of practice to get the car dialed in, the night started off with the heat race. Glenn was set to go out in the second race starting in the 6th position of 8 cars in the field. As usual the race was 10 laps long. The race ran flag to flag caution free.LES Aug 22 2009 017
Glenn worked his way up to the 5th position by lap 3 and at the checkered flag was scored in third.
So Glenn Jr. brought the car back to pits for same final adjustments before the feature.
The feature was the normal 40 laps in length, 16 cars were in the field and Glenn started from the 10th spot. The race ran for three laps before the first caution. Glenn was pretty much locked into the tenth position with not a lot of change in the the field. The next two cautions were back to back on lap 9. After some time was taken to sort out the running order. The field went back to green flag racing and Glenn went to work carefully taking spots up to 5th by lap 24 before the caution slowed the racing on lap 30. Restarts were single file from here to the end and as the laps ticked off the desperation from just about every car on the track to save and take positions and points was evident. The last caution flag was on lap 37 and Glenn Jr was in 6th. Glenn raced clean and smooth through the last remaining laps and with veteran skill missed the 4th and 5th place cars as they got together on the back stretch on the last lap. At the checkered flag Glenn Jr. was scored in 4th position.
So patience prevails and truly does bring success even during a feature at a short track on Saturday night. Congratulations to Glenn Jr and the team on a great race.
Thats all from the track for now but if the Glenn Jr and the team heads out we will keep you posted.

Lake Erie 150

Lake Erie Speedway held its annual long distance race on Saturday July 18th and Glenn Jr joined the field of 28 Late Models running for 150 laps after a 12 lap heat race. A race of this length requires a lot of preparation starting way before the car gets to the track. It continues on the day of the race with the team at the track from early in the morning on race day. As it gets closer to race time each of the practice sessions are very important. Weather conditions on Saturday were more similar to a Saturday in September than July so car handling was completely different.
Lake Erie 150 _2009 003
The Heat Race was set by pill draw and Glenn Jr was set to go out in the 3rd of 4 Heats in the 6th position in a 7 car field. The top four finishers in each of the Heat races would then go on to redraw prior to the Feature on the front stretch for the top twelve starting spots. In the Heat race Glenn jumped up to the 4th position early in the the short 12 lap Heat. He held that spot steadily until the closing laps brought the back of the field charging. Glenn battled hard for his position and at the checkered flag was scored 5th.

So with the car still not handling as it should, the crew went back to work with more changes. When the lineup was posted Glenn Jr was set in the 18th spot to start the feature.
The Feature started shortly after 9PM despite some threatening skies and a light rain that quickly passed. Glenn Jr started 18th, and as a veteran driver knows in any long distance race the name of the game is to be there on lap 150. So the mind set is much different than a normal 40 lap feature where time is of the essence and racing hard would be called for. Here the opposite is true, patience and persistence will get you much farther than running hard and fast. Glenn Jr. did just that and hung on to his position in 18th through the first 4 caution flags. By the caution on lap 49 he had gained 3 spots into 15th and by the competition caution on lap 75 he was in 12th.
Lake Erie 150 _2009 130
Glenn restarted 12th and continued to work on the positions in front of him one at a time. One more caution flag slowed the racing on lap 132 and Glenn had made his way up to 8th. The rest of the race ran caution free and Glenn ran a great race to checkered finishing unofficially around 8th. Despite the many changes made to the car it was not an easy drive for Glenn Jr and he showed his skills as veteran driver to bring home a well deserved top ten finish. Even though it wasn’t sitting in victory lane, it certainly felt like one for the driver and the team.

Lake Erie Speedway July 4th NASCAR Whelen Series

The NASCAR Whelen Series continued at Lake Erie Speedway on Saturday July 4th with a Heat and Feature race for the Late Model Division. Glenn Jr. and his team and worked extra long hours and thrown the kitchen sink at the car making wholesale changes to see if they could pull out something big. Not even knowing if the what they had was close or way off they went out for the short practice session to run a few laps.
LES July 4th 2009 003

Finding that it was not bad, the team had the post practice meeting to make the final adjustments for the Heat race.
LES July 4th 2009 008
So Glenn was set to go out 2nd in the field of 7 cars in the 2nd Heat. Also racing tonight for the second time this season was Rookie driver Tommy Morell driving the #33. He lined up 7th. At the drop of the Green Glenn jumped out to an early lead and for the rest of the 10 laps worked on extending his lead on the rest of the field. Glenn took the checkered flag and the Heat race win.
LES July 4th 2009 027
Tommy ran a clean race however the car tightened up and so he did a great job hanging on all ten laps and bringing it home 7th.
So it was back to the pit area for work on adjustments for the Feature.
The Feature line up put Glenn Jr. on the pole and Tommy 20th out of 21 cars. Prior to the start of the Feature they stopped the cars on the frontstretch for in car driver introductions. Here is a just a look at Glenn’s driver intro from the pole.

From the drop of the green Glenn Jr and the #3 raced side by side until the first caution on lap #2. Glenn then started 2nd on lap 2 and from that restart jumped out into the first place. Two laps later was the next yellow and Glenn was scored as the leader. As the field took the green on the double file restart Glenn again took off and this time took a good lead for several laps as he had in the Heat Race. As the race continued to run green ,the lead began to diminish after lap 20 as the cars back in the field shuffled positions and lap traffic slowed his pace. Slowly the second place car crept closer. Glenn had to pick his way carefully through the lap traffic and on lap 31 slipped into the 2nd position. The last caution flag flew at lap 32 Glenn restarted in 2nd and held that spot at the checkered flag.
The #33 had a rough night finishing in the back of the running order.

The next race for Glenn Jr. looks to be at Lake Erie Speedway July 18th in the NASCAR Whelen Series but you can always watch our Twitter page for up to the minute updates.

Some Racing Video

While doing some web surfing I came across some really great coverage done of the race at Midvale in the Main Event Series that Glenn Jr. raced in back the first time the series stopped there. Unfortunately motor troubles kept the #6 from racing tonight July 3rd but you can enjoy this look back at the May 23rd race.

Even with the failing brakes.. still held on for at least half the race.

Lake Erie Speedway June 27th

After having a week off Glenn Jr was ready to get back to racing and what better way to do that than with a double header night of racing in the NASCAR Whelen Series and the Main Series.

Glenn had been at the track most of Saturday with both the Main Event car and his Late Model NASCAR Whelen Series car going from one to the other as each practice session took place.
Saturday June 27th 2009 LES 011
Saturday June 27th 2009 LES 052

After practice was complete qualifying took place for the Main Event Car.

His lap of record was 14.803. After all was said and done with the inverts Glenn was starting in the outside of the front row.

Before that Glenn had to hop back over to the #32 NASCAR Whelen Series Late Model for the heat race. Glenn started 3rd in the 2nd Heat.
Saturday June 27th 2009 LES 042
The race ran caution free. Glenn Jr. found out at the drop of the green flag that he had his hands full with a tight race car in the close race traffic but being a veteran and a great driver he was able to make it to the checkered flag ten laps later in the 6th position.
The pit area was a busy place with all the changes being made to the #32 Late Model and the preparations also being put in place for the 100 lap Main Event race.

Glenn took the track next for the Main Event race on the outside pole. As the green flag dropped Glenn Jr. wasted no time in making his move to the front and then pulled away from the pack where he continued to lead the race through the first 20 laps when the first caution flag flew. On the double file restart Glenn Jr. again retook the lead and pulled away. Glenn Jr. continued to lead and began to lap the field, by lap 40 he encountered some pretty heavy lap traffic that really showed what experience will do for a driver as he made his way through it with little effort. Unfortunately in racing you can’t control everything and on lap 52 the 2nd place car that had caught up to Glenn while he had been in the heavy traffic did not successfullly manuever the three wide pass on the back stretch and sent the lap car spinning into Glenn and Glenn spinning into the center of the track.
Saturday June 27th 2009 LES 122
They went back to green on lap 51 but Glenn soon found out the car was not the same and the race traffic over took him while he struggled to hold onto the car. A lap later the caution was out and Glenn was in to pit to fix some damage. He restarted at the tail end of the field just as they took the green. Next caution flag flew on lap 66 and Glenn Jr was 15th . Another quick caution flew a lap later on lap 67 and Glenn Jr dropped into the pits once again to try and adjust on the car restarting 17th. The race went back green and stayed green for several laps. Glenn did the best he could to drive the damaged car but by lap 92 he pulled down and off the track unable to correct the condition finishing 15th.

The night of racing was still not over. The feature for the NASCAR Whelen Series took the Track around 11:00 PM. Glenn started from the 18th position in the field of 22 cars. Three caution flags broke up the racing action on lap 3, 16 and 22. Glenn had moved up to 14th on lap 3, 11th on lap 16 after fighting through heavy race traffic to get there and finished in the tenth position with a loose race car at the checkered flag.

So the long night of racing was complete and Glenn Jr and team are ready to move on and take on the next racing challenge at Midvale in the Main Event Series next Friday July 3rd in Midvale OH. We will now be on Twitter and you can get some updates straight from the track by following the link off the front page of the web site or click here . So see us there or check back here for all the news about Glenn Jr and the team At The Track.

In The News

Glenn Jr. took a few moments last weekend to speak to Victor Fernandes a sports writer from goerie.com about what his experience racing in the Main Event Series has been like. You can check out that what he said by going here.
There is another article highlighting the typical week Glenn Jr. and the team spends preparing for a race and you can read that here.

Glenn Jr and the #32 team put in a long week of work on the car and were optimistic about the night ahead as they pulled into Lake Erie on Saturday night. They were rewarded with a second place heat race finish and a fifth place finish in the feature. It was thanks to the work of the crew on the pits and some sharp driving from Glenn.

The weather was cool at Lake Erie which was was no different from the previous weeks.
Glenn Jr. went out for some practice to see how the car felt after the work was done to rebuild and fix it from the week previous.

The feature had the field set with the #32 starting in the 11th position. The initial start had a couple cars stack up in the middle on the track just past the flag stand and Glenn Jr. did a fantastic job of avoiding the accident by diverting through the inside of the track as the yellow flag waved. Glenn restarted in 8th after the damaged cars were removed. Glenn Jr raced his way up to 5th by lap 11 and was holding onto that spot on lap 18 when the only other caution flag waved. The rest of the laps ticked away as the race stayed green and Glenn Jr. raced side by side, lap after lap battling for the 4th spot all the way to the checkered flag.
