Mounting a customer’s painting

mounting-Painting-Woman

I had this interesting job to do this week. Kim called by to see if I could mount this painting she’d bought. Kim had been in previously looking at getting a photo put onto canvas but decided she wanted this painting done first.

The difficult part was the top of the painting had been trimmed as you see it in the photo. So I couldn’t wrap any of the top around to the back like I normally do. Needless to say I had to do a bit of thinking how to mount it and came up with doing an edge glue to the top front 1cm of the canvas onto the frame.

From there it was a matter of doing the rest the normal way. To finish off the top/top rear I glued on a strip of plain canvas, which Kim would paint later on to closer match the rest of the painting. The frame measured 950mm x 875mm so it was quite a large one!

Kim called me later to thank me for the wonderful job and said she’d be back to have those photos put onto canvas.

Restoring Old Rugby Photo

Andrew called to see me about having a series of photos restored of his old time relatives from South Africa. This particular photo is of his grandfather’s rugby team taken in the early nineteen hundreds. The image was marked and scratched and looking worse for wear. After some extensive work the picture looked much better.

Canvas Print Landscape Cape Brett Bay Of Islands

Bernessa contacted me about having this wonderful landscape photo put onto canvas. It was a scene taken by her husband from Cape Brett, Bay Of Islands, New Zealand, looking northwards. I did a few minor enhancements to bring out the best of the image and printed it onto canvas. The image was wrapped around a frame measuring 700mm x 530mm.

Bernessa emailed me some wonderful feedback: ” Thanks Neal for an AWESOME job. We absolutely love it!! Well worth the money and thanks very much for dropping off the photo to my mum’s that was beyond the call of duty thanks. I will recommend you to my friends and family.

Kind regards Bernessa

P.S I will be using your services in the future I just need to figure out what I want.

Steve Moase of Moaseart is a well known artist living in Sandy Bay, Northland, New Zealand. He approached me wanting to make quality canvas art reproductions of some of his work. Steve specializes in distinctively New Zealand Art, featuring the country’s rich heritage of flora, fauna, coastal landscapes and bush scenes in the form of painting and fine sketches.

I discusssed with Steve his options regarding size and type of canvas printed and mounted, choosing three works to start from. Steve was really pleased with the end results, and I know his reproduced art works will be found in many new homes. The three above images are titled from top: “Karamea”, “Tiki 3″ and “Amongst the Giants.” More information on his works can be found at his website:

On Sunday 25th October the New Zealand Black Sticks Mens’ Team played against a Northern invitation side comprising Northland and North Harbour hockey players. The match was held as a fundraiser for ex Northland player Mike Delaney.

A Junior Black Stick and North Harbour NHL player, Mike suffered a broken neck some months ago and has since been making a long slow recovery. Michael’s family have made a massive financial commitment to get Michael over to Germany for stem cell surgery, which is hoped will aid him in his battle back to a normal life. The weekend of events including evening dinner and the game was hugely successful.

The Blacksticks won by a huge margin.

  • Multiple Scan and Photo Restoration Project

Annie came to see me about having over 70 photos of her distant and recent relatives scanned, enhanced and restored then copied onto DVD. Most of the images required an enhancement, a few full restoration. The images were scanned at a high resolution so Annie would be able to view all the details in the photos closeup. This was quite a long and big project. but the images came out looking great.

    Working Behind the Scenes

Not much to show over the last couple of weeks, but I certainly have been busy! Some personal canvas prints have been made but not for public viewing. I’ve also been working on some multi-photo restoration/enhancing projects which are now nearing completion. Also more canvas artworks to print, but still in the process of having them printed then mounted.

Canvas Print Panorama, Altered Photo, Bay of Islands

Claire contacted me about getting a quality panorama canvas print done of the top picture seen here, taken in the Bay of Islands. She’s taken a panoramic scene with her camera, with the camera then building the view. Unfortunately it didn’t do a good job. The middle was missing part of the image and the right side had a curvature to the ocean. It didn’t look good, but this was the one Claire liked the most of all the panorama photos she’d taken.

Using the 2nd panorama image shown I was able to use it to fill in the missing portions. After further enhancing, the image at the bottom was produced - quite a tricky job to get right. This was printed and mounted onto a 300mm x 1000mm frame. Claire loved the final look and is giving it to her mother as a birthday present.

    Fixing and Enlarging Photo Print

Jo Walker came to see me about having this 70s photo scanned, enhanced and then enlarged. Her mother, seen bottom left holding the boy, has fading eyesight, and Jo wanted to know if I was able to make it bigger. I said no problem, the original photo was clear enough to enlarge.

Jo provided me with a new picture frame, allowing me to enlarge the photo to the correct dimensions. The photo was scanned, marks and redeye removed, colours enhanceed then printed to a 16 x 22 inch size, with excellent clarity. When Jo saw the final print mounted she was overjoyed with what she sure. I was going to make her mother very happy!
