Celebrating the Newborn Baby is What Baby Showers are About

The American baby shower is a celebration in which a new-coming child is welcomed into the world by family and friends, and is traditionally “showered” with baby gifts. Baby showers have become increasingly popular in the United States, and the custom of hosting a baby shower is a wonderful way of helping expectant parents get essential items for the infant, such as baby bedding, strollers, clothes, and diapers. In America, baby showers are generally held about one to two months before the baby’s arrival. By having the baby shower a while before the baby is born, parents can be better prepared and have all the necessary articles, furniture, and appliances that a new baby will call for.

Although historians are not completely clear on exactly when the baby shower custom began in the world, there is evidence that shows the previous existence of what we would call today, a baby shower, in several ancient cultures. During the Roman, Egyptian, Indian, and Chinese eras, for example, newborn babies and their mothers were presented with a variety of hand-made gifts by family and friends, during beautiful feasts for the little girl that would celebrate their life. Historians believe that the American baby shower draws its origins from these ancient cultural traditions.

Baby showers did not become popular in North America until the baby boom era after World War II. They were actually held when the baby was presented after birth, and coincided with christenings and baptisms in the case of a religious family. These first baby showers were considered a women’s event, and by no means allow men as guests. The original post-birth American baby showers also served the purpose of giving the new mother and baby some company while they were at home for the first month of the infant’s life.

Today, the modern baby shower is usually held one to two months before the baby’s due date, not after the newborn’s birth, like it was originally held. There has also been a recent trend in which families are breaking social paradigms and constraints, and therefore, co-ed baby showers are becoming increasingly popular. It is now common that friends and relatives of both the mommy-to-be and the daddy-to-be are invited to celebrate the coming of a new member of the family, regardless of their gender.

The gift-giving process has definitely evolved since ancient times when guests would bring handmade gifts to “shower” the baby. In modern society, the expectant parents usually register with a department store or a baby specialty store in order to create a wish list. Friends and relatives would then go to the store that the parents are registered in, look them up in the registries by name, and print out the wish list. This is a great way for guests to know what the parents need or desire as gifts the new baby boy.

The modern American baby shower is a wonderful way of welcoming a new baby into this world. Baby showers are enjoyable and fun for both parents and guests, and they are the perfect occasion to celebrate life and help parents prepare for the new coming baby.

Baby High Chairs - Wood Makes Good Style Sense

Wooden high chairs are making a comeback in a big way. The metal chairs and plastic chairs are gradually losing their popularity to the wooden versions. This is because wooden high chairs go well with the rest of the wooden furniture in the house.

We all know that stylish furniture is mostly of the wooden kind. Metal chairs appear incongruous with the stylish wooden furniture that you have selected so carefully. Metal high chairs do have the advantage of being foldable, yet you never seem to be able to fit them into the usual storage places.

If you are of artistic temperament then aesthetics is a very high priority with you. If this is the case then it is almost a sure thing that you have furnished your house with wooden furniture of the best styling. A wooden high chair will match the furniture of the dining room or the kitchen. The styling and the finish of the high chair should be chosen to match that of the furniture. Whereas plastic and metal chairs lose their charm after a few years, wooden high chairs age gracefully and will serve the family for generations.

Now that the aesthetic appeal is taken care of, check the functional aspect of the wooden high chair. It is advisable to get a high chair with a front tray that can be manipulated with a single hand. Though a plastic food tray is convenient to keep clean, a wooden tray is just as easy to clean with a damp cloth after every meal.

The most important feature that you should look for in a high chair is safety. The high chair should be stable enough, so that it doesn’t topple over when the baby starts moving about in it. It should have a full body harness to keep the child from sliding right out of the seat. Make sure that the chair is durable and sturdy. You don’t want it to fall apart after just a few months!

You might miss the roller castors that are common on plastic and metal high chairs. This will make shifting the wooden high chair a bit difficult over carpeted areas. You won’t be able to turn the chair into a recliner either, a feature that is available only in plastic and metal chairs. The same goes for the height adjustment feature, and the toys on the dining tray, both of which are absent in a wooden chair.

To get a good bargain in a wooden high chair, you’ll have to be diligent in analyzing the products on the market, especially the range you’re interested in. Make a list of the features you absolutely require, then the features that are of secondary importance. Use this to evaluate the different high chair models available to you.

Even if you don’t need a baby high chair immediately, it will be a good idea to begin your due diligence survey right away so that you get more time to make an informed choice when the time comes.

The Key to Picking the Proper Girls Bedding

Beddings are very important household necessities but most people overlook this fact and think that for as long as you have something that covers the cushions of your bed, you’re already set for a good night’s rest. But that isn’t the case and that would never be the case most especially if you have a baby girl at home.

Beddings differ in color, style, size, materials and a whole lot more but serve the same purpose and that is to give comfort to the user and make him or her feel relaxed. The same goes for baby girls. You have to especially go in search for the perfect baby girl bedding for your little angel if you want to make sure that she will have a peaceful sleep throughout the night.

There are several baby girl beddings out there that you can easily choose from. The many choices and brands will offer you the greatest prices, most unique designs and the best innovations. However, you have to make sure that before you get swayed by these shallow facts, look at the characteristics that should be given more importance.

The materials used for the baby girl bedding should be your top most priority. You cannot afford to buy just about any baby girls butterfly bedding out there without actually knowing what materials were used in stitching it together. Make sure that the baby girl bedding is made from one hundred percent cotton and that it is well tailored without any loose ends. Also, make sure that there are no added designs like glitters, embossed patterns and things like that because these could be harmful to your baby’s skin. Baby girl beddings should be simple but stylish at the same time.

You also have to remember that the baby girls princess bedding you will buy should be made from gartered materials that can easily be adjusted. Garters follow the structure of the bed so it will be easier and safer, not to mention much neat, for your baby girl to move around. This could also give you the benefit of the doubt that your child wouldn’t be able to grab the bedding and cover it over her face just right after you turn your back.

Keep in mind that the style of the bedding should be simple yet distinct. There are several beddings out there you can choose from but if you want unique bedding just for your baby girl, you can have someone customize a set for you. You can choose to have her name stitched on the bedding or any other design you might want to play around with. Your creativity can be played up when you go in search for baby girl bedding.

If you have got it all set, make sure that you change the bedding of your baby girl at least once a week. That is to make sure that it is free of dust and other bacteria that can cause sickness to your very fragile baby. See to it that at an early age you train your baby girl to sleep alone on her baby girl bed to allow her to get used to it. She will eventually grow up to become a toddler and by then, it would be easier for you to buy her toddler bedding because of what you have learned. Good luck!

New Dance Studio in Clearwater Offers Kids Classes

Ballroom and Latin dancing, while frightening propositions to adults without experience, are nothing for kids. And why should they care? Children lack the concerns for appearances they adults harbor, aren’t unafraid of falling or looking stupid, and have energy any adult would kill for. So with all that moldable drive, and fearlessness, all that’s missing is quality dance instruction. And now Clearwater has that, as well.

In August, world famous purveyors of the dance, Arthur Murray Dance Studios opened their newest location on Highland Avenue in Clearwater, giving Pinellas county residents one less excuse to put off learning ballroom dancing in Tampa Bay. With the launching of the Kid’s Dance Program, parents can now ensure their children can at least positively raise eyebrows at every wedding they’ll ever attend, if not lay the groundwork for a career a show business. So whether you want to retire to the Caribbean on your famous kid’s dime, provide them a rewarding method of exercise, or just want to involve them in a positive activity, Arthur Murray Clearwater has a kid’s dancing package that will suite your needs.

At Arthur Murray Clearwater, the kid’s classes offer instruction for would-be dancers from ages 7-17. Patient, professional teachers will cover the basic steps in favorite like FOXTROT, WALTZ, RUMBA, SWING, CHA-CHA.

Studio owners Sevrin Szapiaczan and Landra Seim promise, “Kids frequently change partners and have loads of fun while learning.”

Students learn the fundamental skills upon which later moves are based and study at least two dance styles each class. The beginner class is designed as a fun introduction to ballroom dance in the various dancing styles. The Advanced Class focuses on dance technique and choreography. The studio also provides private lessons five days per week for performance and competition-oriented children.

The cost for the Children’s Dance Class is $15 per class, per student, or $165 for the entire 11-week course.

Beginner’s Classes are held on Wednesdays at 6:00pm for children aged 7-12, and then at 6:45pm for older kid’s aged 13-17.

Intermediate/Advanced classes are every Saturday morning at 11:00am, for those aged 7-12, and 11:45am, for those aged 13-17.

Although there is no fee for registration, registration is required. For more info, please visit the studio’s website: ArthurMurrayClearwater.com or call the Clearwater, FL studio at 727-489-9919.

Baby Memory Books - Trendy Holiday and Cool Baby Shower Gift Idea

A mother is not the only one who has memories of baby and toddlerhood. Grandparents also play a very important part in the making and keeping of a child’s memories.

The advent of the holiday season marks the passing of another year. Each of us becomes a bit more nostalgic than usual at this time so rich in tradition and with the reminders of ending and beginnings so close on every hand. As minds wander over the previous year and holidays past we can see those little ones that are dear to our hearts and mark their growth with each Christmas.

It is often difficult to believe that the little one that runs about the house with pattering feet and a barely decipherable chatter was little more than a roly-poly smiling bundle at this same time last year.

Good intentions

Each baby is born to mothers who have the best of intentions to record and photograph each moment of this child’s life. Many mothers rise to this challenge amid hectic schedules and life’s demands. Yet few remain as committed to the scrapbook of the last child as they were with the first. Some mothers just don’t have time to even begin and those cute baby memory books remain untouched as the years pass.

Filling a need

Moms and Dads are not the only persons in a child’s life that have memories to record and share. Aunties and Grandmas also love and care for these babies from birth to the toddler years and right on up. This year why not give a gift that records and shares these precious memories with your precious baby?

Photos that are locked on computer hard drives or remain hidden on memory chips in cameras aren’t very accessible. Toddlers love to see pictures of themselves and hear stories featuring them as they were when they were a baby. A memory book dedicated to them will be a big hit.

The toddler is not the only one who will appreciate the memory book. Moms from the dedicated scrap booking enthusiast to the mom who never even started will appreciate photos of her child that are already arranged, journaled and require nothing of her time and energy other than pure enjoyment.

Unique perspective

Grandmas and Aunties have a unique perspective that they can share. As a grandparent or sibling you can share memories of the baby as well as the parent you knew as a child. Pointing out similarities in looks, behavior and attitudes is often fun for both the toddler and their parent to discover. You can also laugh more readily at the natural naughtiness of childhood. As a loved one not in the parental role it is a funny occurrence - not a tragic mess - when the toothpaste is emptied from the tube, or the butter is eaten in huge bites right from the cube.

Getting started

To start your memory book Christmas gift give yourself time to complete it. The value of this gift is in its creation and not the monetary investment, so make sure you give it the time it deserves. The internet will be your best friend. You can get the photos you need by sending them directly from your PC to the photo shop via email. This saves time and gas. If you have the capability you can even print the photos yourself at home.

Memory books come in all shapes and sizes. You can get a one-time book that you can fill, or you can get a book that allows for the addition of pages as the years roll on. Browse online to find the book that is right for you, and then get to work. This is one gift that will be pleasing to giver and recipient alike.
