About 30 students have already enrolled in the programme which has been launched following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between IGNOU and Iran Culture House (ICH), the university's PRO, Ravi Mohan, said.
Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran, Karim Najafi, said Persian is not spoken only in Iran, but in large parts of the western Asia. "As India and Iran have a mutual heritage for over 1,000 years, we could go up to PhD programmes in near future," Najafi said.

Book Publishing Made easy. IGNOU focus on Post-graduation Diploma Course in Book Publishing.
The first-of-its-kind programe in distance learning mode in the country.
IGNOU, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Publishers, has designed Post-graduation DiplomaCourse in Book Publishing that will allow students to learn both theoretical and practical aspects of the publishing business.
The university would help the students of the course get placement in the industry, IGNOU Vice-Chancellor Prof V N Rajasekharan Pillai said.
For the most important practical knowledge the federation would arrange internship of the students in various publishing houses of the country. Eligibility to take admission in the Post-graduation Diploma Course in Book Publishing is graduate degree from any recognized university.
The course will focus on areas like editing, designing, production, copyright, reprographic rights, author- publisher relationship and marketing of the books.
The programe is expected to be launched next month.

IGNOU has reduced the cut off marks System for MBA
In an attempt to enable more management wannabees take MBA degree, IGNOU has reduced the cut off marks to get admission in its MBA programme to 50 per cent for general category students.
"Graduates in general category having 50 % marks and reserved category students with 45 % marks are eligible to appear for OPENMAT, the entrance test of IGNOU for admission to the MBA programme," said vice chancellor of the university, V N Rajasekharan Pillai.
So now clause of three years experience in supervisory and managerial category along for graduates willing to take admission to the MBA programme has been removed.
Even those graduates who have successfully cleared the entrance test for admission to management programme conducted by recognised institutions like CAT, MAT and state level tests conducted by the state governments need not sit for the OPENMAT test of IGNOU, he said.
The vice-chancellor also said the age limit for admission to the management programmes apart from MBA offered by the university has also been removed.
The next OPENMAT test will be held on February 2, 2009 across the country.
