You may have software on your computer that you don’t want [insert account user type here] accessing. Windows Vista lets you block access to programs - for individual user accounts on your computer. Learn, in this guide, how to set up controls to restrict access to specific programs on your computer.

Restrict Access to Programs

To restrict access to specific programs on your computer, do the following:

  1. Make sure you are logged in as the administrator of the computer
  2. Press the Start button and select Control Panel
  3. Under User Accounts and Family Safety, click Set up parental controls for any user
  4. Vista Parental Controls 4

  5. If prompted, (type your password and) select Continue
  6. Click the account you want to add parental controls to
  7. Vista Parental Controls 5

  8. Click on Allow and block specific programs
  9. Allow or block specific programs in Windows Vista 1

  10. Select [username] can only use programs I allow
  11. Check the programs that can be used
  12. Press OK when you are done
