At 3:30pm Calgary time I will going to see a mechanic regarding drilling and probing. I have done all the other work involved myself. What and where and how to your comment? I prefer this location vs post turbo.

Suspension lift for L400's
by delicat (Posted Fri, 06 Nov 2009 01:46:09 GMT) Nice van Adam but unless your hitch was mounted on the front I'm afraid your 400 will leave even more of a mark than your 300 as the back end of a LWB 400 hangs much further than a 300. Your lift should compensate though... Anyway, you got the best color!

Hiace haters
by fexlboi (Posted Thu, 05 Nov 2009 22:37:31 GMT) I'm quite interested in a 5spd Hiace Super Long 4WD 3.0TD. Would give us the extra room for our planed road trip. I have read many times about the overheating issue with the older 3L engine, but haven't heard about any issues with the newer KZ 3.0 Turbo Diesel version. Anyone? Also now you see quite a few Hiaces in Vancouver is there still the issue with finding the e-coded headlights? I haven't seen any photos of lifted Hiaces with bigger tires. Does that mean it's not possible? I'm also curious about the load capacity. They are for sure considerable more expensive as well as not as good looking as a l300, but the rest is quite a sweet package.

L400 headlights - can you modify them
by Manitoba deli (Posted Thu, 05 Nov 2009 21:54:55 GMT) I can only speak for Manitoba, here covers are legal as long as they are clear and have no pattern on them. If they are tinted, smoked, or even yellowed or dulled from age, they fail. We also aim headlights, not only for compliance, but for every mechanical saftey. (At least at the shop where I work)

Mitsubishi Canter Questions
by Manitoba deli (Posted Thu, 05 Nov 2009 21:39:46 GMT) The 3.5l I imported, is non turboed, it accelerates very well, as good as my l400, but I think the pump on my l400 may have been "touched", it'll lay rubber for about 20 feet from a stand still on clean pavement. Anyways back to the canter, power was good. I drove it from BC to Manitoba pulling a U-haul auto transport with my l400 on back. The truck will do 120km, but feels most comfortable at about 95km. (it would do the 120km with the trailer and l400 in tow) I was quite impressed, as the truck is not large, about the size of a full size 1/2ton. The current owner of the truck is averaging 22mpg using it as a garbage truck (lots of idling, and stop & starts). The canter also had an exhaust brake that worked beautifully on those hills you guys have out west. Cab comfort was slightly lacking, but the trip took me 36hours, (3 of those hours were spent sleeping in the Delica on the trailer in some truck stop by Lethbridge AB). All in all the canter is an excellent truck.

Old member, tough decisions - comparion between L300 & L400
by Green1 (Posted Thu, 05 Nov 2009 19:57:53 GMT)
Quote: Out of all three, I preferred the L300 poptop 'Turtle' for long distance camping. But that's me. Maryna likes the L400 LWB but also Turtle. Is that just because of the caperization? or did you find that the L300 was nicer than the L400 for this in some other way?

L400 Model codes and what they mean....
by Stiful (Posted Thu, 05 Nov 2009 19:55:35 GMT) This may be helpful if you are searching Japanese Auctions looking for L400s
These codes are always in the Chassis/Vin Number..
PD8w = SWB, Low roof, 2800 Intercooled Turbo diesel PD6w = SWB, Low roof, V6 3000cc CCI Petrol PD4w = SWB, Low roof, 2400cc CCIPetrol
PE means SWB but with HIGH ROOF (70mil higher) + 8w or 6w or 4w depending on engine
PF means LWB + 8w or 6w . All PF LWBs have high roofs and I have never seen a 2.4 in a LWB.
All models come in either 7 or 8 seats but 8 seats in a LWB is rare and not an option with Supers or Royals..
Hope this is helpful. Cheers..

Egr vacuum question
by Green1 (Posted Thu, 05 Nov 2009 17:45:58 GMT) And I still can't believe that people refuse to believe that Mitsubishi would have designed an engine assuming that the EGR would be there... considering that these vehicles come with it from the factory, and they don't all smoke horribly at that point, and considering that the engines are designed to have one, it's incredible that anyone would think that the engine would be BETTER with it removed!
keep it clean, and it will always be better than not having one.
It should alsobe noted that several people on the UK forum reported that they had problems with black smoke STARTING after they removed the EGR... something about the vehicle being tuned for having one, and about not messing with something that isn't broken...

New Member - moving from Lurker to poster
by Green1 (Posted Thu, 05 Nov 2009 13:59:44 GMT) My decision ended up hinging on the power, The L300 is severely underpowered, (now part of that I know is my specific vehicle with all it's engine issues, however other L300s I've driven weren't that much better) I was tired of lugging up mountain passes at less than 70kph. I'll post a better comparison of the 2 once I have the L400, but jfrsang has already posted some detailed comparissons on the forum, really though it will come down to personal preference, there is no one right answer that's better for everyone.

I didn't bother to do any exchange calculations, I suspect they pretty much just buy stuff in Japan at retail and make it up. I will need to get my wife to learn Japanese (she speaks 5 languages and is learning a 6th atm, she has a talent for languages, I on the other hand am the opposite) if I get an L400 so she can browse the Japanese sites and get stuff at the proper prices :)

locking hubs
by jfarsang (Posted Wed, 04 Nov 2009 19:35:38 GMT)
Mr. Flibble wrote: If I remember, the locking hubs on my 89 4Runner are Asin Hubs - they come standard with the 4Runner. I am assuming though, that they are the wrong size for a Delica? 4Runner hubs are easy to get, but from the looks of pictures I have seen the bolt pattern looks fairly close...
The inner ring/retainer/sleeves are interchangeable but the hub is not. Toyo's are taller.

35 - 40 MPG !!!
by Erebus (Posted Wed, 04 Nov 2009 13:33:00 GMT)
Green1 wrote: maybe, but not necessarilly, the only way to know for sure is to test the odometer. there are many odometer test sections along the sides of the highways for exactly this purpose. Unfortunately, they aren't really long enough to be useful. In a 5 km section, if you odo shows 1/10th off, which is about as accurate as you can tell, that's a 2% error, but the precision is poor.
What I've done is either by GPS, or find a highway that has kilometre signposts. I did it on the Dempster, where they have a marker every 5 km. Tracked it for 50 km to get a really accurate error.
I noticed recently that in New Hampshire, the Interstate had a sign every .2 mile. Quebec often has every kilometre, and sometimes every 100m.
