Tesla goes sedan

First images of Tesla Model S are revealed. For sure car look handsome and it will be great value. For only around US$60,000 you’ll get fully electric car with range of 250 miles and performance good for 0-100 in about 6 seconds. Great mix of family sedan car with sport pedigree. I hope that unique platform Tesla building for Model S will as sporty as Lotus platform borrowed for Roadster. Things can not be better than that. Well… actually I think that Karma, featured in my post below, are much better looking car. Model S just look a bit like Porsche concept car from ‘90s. But this is  not final model and I hope backup from Mazda design team will help, as Mazda make gorgeous looking cars lately. Still I would not be ashamed of having Model S in my garage.

Long Live My Sexy Karma

Rock my electric World! Fisker company is building one sexy hybrid. I admit shape remind on Maserati Quattroporte, but Hey nothing against it. This car is SEXY. Electric sexy. And actually have great interior and comfort for 4 passengers, plus specious trunk. As claimed on website, Karma will drive 50miles on electric engine only. Overnight charge and your average commuting to work in this masterpiece will be emission free. As it’s hybrid, your trip can be extended on normal fuel. With claim of 0-100 in 6 seconds and speed of over 200km/h it would be great ride on any day.

Fisker hybrid system is called Q DRIVE and claim to allow average city computer in Europe to fill car with gasoline only once a year. Of course you’ll have to plan your driving holiday differently – maybe stop every 50miles or just burn some fuel? I wouldn’t mind running some fuel in this machine. Yes, it would made me a bit guilty, but few times a year I will survive. Of course barking will charge battery pack, as standard on all hybrids. Car will feature so called in-line process - small fuel engine will power electric motoring (if needed) and power will go to rear wheels. Overnight charge in normal household power point will give enough juice to battery pack to drive around 50 miles without using fuel engine at all. But if you switch to sport mode, car will use all available power to accelerate.

First models are expected to be shifted to customers in 2010. For now, limited edition of first few cars is sold out, but Fisker is taking $1,000 deposit for ‘standard’ model to be delivered in second half of 2010. For sure worth waiting. Whole car is estimated to cost of US$80,000 but you better email or ring them to confirm. Maybe you want some extra options as full solar cell roof (even look sexy).

But biggest surprise for me was interior. Look more like concept car then real thing. But it is real. Not only breakthrough in technology, Karma is amazing in every aspect of design. Enjoy in few photos below. For more details check official website www.fiskerautomotive.com.

In recent news – Tesla company suing Fisker for sabotage. To read full story click here. This post featuring another great photo of Karma’s prototype.

Who else? Toyota’s supercheap supercar

As usually Toyota runs in the race of building green supercar with cool head. Beautifully designed Toyota’s FT-HS concept is super-hybrid. Powered with 3.5L V6 and electric engine, this car will produce 300kW and propeller this concept from 0-100 in 4 seconds. Real supercar performance. But price is real – Toyota claim price of US$30,000 for similar production model that will come in 2009. Is similar mean we will have to change 4 seconds to 8 for 0-100?
Anyway price would be great for such a beautiful sport car, plus its hybrid. Get ready to exchange your Prius…

Electric Fetish from Monaco

Venturi Fetish is produced in Moncao in 2004. Since then it’s on sale for $387,000 US dollars with production of limited number of cars a year. This graceful, fully electric supercar was real ancestor of Tesla, but styling is much more exciting and futuristic.

Performance will keep you up – 0-100 in less than 5 seconds and 160km top speed. OK, maybe some supercharger could come here in the future. Charging take only 1 hour (up to 4 on lower power grid). Totally charging of battery cost only 1.83euros and it will give you 250km range. Very low price, plus you’ll feel great on saving the Earth. If you install solar panels on your roof – hey! – you’ll have full “package”. Visit website below and enjoy in this design extravagance.

Audi’s diesel showoff

Audi revealed its new concept of diesel engines with greener emission. In order to achieve staggering performance of 0-100 in 4.2 seconds and top speed more than 186 mph, Audi developed new V12 twin turbo 500 horsepower engine (plus 737 lb-ft of torque).  Concept car is called R8 TDI and based on R8 with petrol V8.

R8 TDI is green enough to suit new California’s tough standards, and low emission is achieved by fitting five fuel injection events per engine cycle plus new three stage exhaust. Standard catalyst and particle filter is fitted, as well as additional catalyst with AdBlue additive to break up nitric oxides.

Car is also fitted with quarto all-wheel drive and economy is 24mpg, what is not that bad for supercar of this performance. As whole concept is based on current production R8 model, we may see this concept on sale soon, but in very limited quantity. Still this is good showoff of Audi’s diesel technology and we may expect hybrid diesel-electric car to come next.
