His latest video is a 53 minute look at the NeXT Cube. In the video you can see a clear look at the earliest days of OSX. The NeXT OS is very clearly the basis of what OSX would eventually become. The Dock is there, The Finder is there, even Pages (part of the iWork suite) is present on the NeXT Cube.
It’s a fascinating look at the NeXT system, and well worth taking a look at if you have some free time today.
Last night “The Simpsons” paid a visit to the “Mapple” store, with a pretty darn funny send up of die hard Apple fanboys.
I’m sure that the hardest of the hardcore will be upset by the outdated numbering of the operating system that Comic Book Guy mentions, or with the reference that Steve Jobs was fired and then rehired (like that’s a BAD thing) and all of that…but I was amused. What’s even funnier is that Apple advertised the new “green” Macbooks during the second commercial break.
The parody starts off with Lisa entering a “Mapple” store and looking at all their amazing devices. All the standard mockeries of Apple are there, including the product that no one knows what does, and the obligatory 1984 ad parody (with Comic Book Guy throwing the hammer).
The parody continues throughout the episode with Lisa getting a “MyPod” from Krusty, and eventually getting a “MyBill” for $1,200 because of all the stuff she downloaded from, I assume, “MyTunes”.
Ultimately Lisa visits Steve “Mobbs” at Mapple headquarters (at the bottom of the sea), and ends up working for the company by handing out pamphlets telling people to “Think Differently” to pay off her bill.

Rolando is probably one of the most anticipated games for the iPhone thus far. From the game’s first trailer (featuring an unbelievably catchy song…that has since been removed) it’s been one of the most talked about games coming to the device.
Now ng:moco is stating that the game will be released in December. The game features some interesting 2D physics, a great visual design, and some interesting game play that we’re getting a good look at in the new trailer.
Apple launched its first ad campaign for the new unibody Macbook line last night, and it has a decidedly “green” focus.
The new ads focus on how earth-friendly the new Macbook and Macbook Pro are, and this is just the start of Apple’s campaign to promote their systems under this new “green” banner.
Steve Jobs has gone on record as promising to clean virtually all toxic materials from Apple’s hardware by the end of 2008 - but without some new desktop replacements (which are unlikely at this point in the year) that time table may be a bit off.
Sure, we still have a little over a month to go before the end of the year, but it’s safe to say that Apple is done offering up new products in 2008.
Looking back on the developments of the year, there are some pretty impressive things that have come out of 2008 in regards to Apple releases. I’m curious, though, as to what you think is the BEST of these amazing products.
Here are the contenders:
1) Macbook Air - Apple kicked off the year by showing us this extremely thin, extremely portable, addition to the Apple notebook family. It’s amazing, no doubt - but is it the best?
2) iPhone 3G - Apple’s second generation iPhone features an even sleeker design, GPS, 3G speed, and more - is that enough to put it over the top?
3) Unibody Macbook and Macbook Pros - These next generation notebooks feature a unibody design, a refreshed look, and a great price point for the power they contain…but is even that enough to defeat the iPhone 3G and Macbook Air?
4) Other - Cinema Displays? The App Store? iTunes 8? the iPhone OS 2? Do any of these things overtake the other options on the list (btw - if you think the App Store or iPhone OS should be included in the iPhone 3G…just vote for the 3G…they’re here because they are available for the original iPhone as well.)
