CarPC install in 2008.5 Mazda 3 5-door GT
The Mazda 3 is a great car, but I didn't want to spend the $2000 plus for the factory navigation unit. I've had computers in my last two cars, so I decided to "geek my ride." This was a pretty straight forward install, as I used the factory head-unit for amplification.

Now, on to the computer install. I used a Navigation popup chassis from this site: http://www.japanparts.com/db/partsli...aker=8&volkey=

The components used in this install are listed below, some of these items are from my previous installs:

Mazda Pop-up Enclosure - $200 - Used on Ebay
7" Lilliput LED-Backlit Monitor - $231 on Ebay
CPU: IntelD945GCLF2 $85.00 - from Buy.com
VoomPC2 Enclosure $69.00 - from short-circuit.com
OS: WinXP Pro SP3 - $100.00 OEM from local computer store
Hard Drive: 120gb 2.5" Toshiba - $59.00 from local computer store
Memory: 1gb 533 DDR2 - $20.00 from local computer store
Frontend: Centrafuse - $129.00 or Roadrunner $Free
Mobile TV: Slingplayer - $149.00 Slingbox from Amazon.com
HD Radio: Directed Electronics - $49 Ebay
GPS Software: Iguidance 2009 - $89.00 Semsons.com
GPS Receiver: Holux USB - $39.00 Semsons.com
Keyboard: Mini USB - $19.00 MP3Car.com
Remote Control: Macally - $25.00 Ebay

Main Amp: Factory Bose - Came with Car
Subwoofer Amp: Crunch Powerzone P500.2 - $79.00 Fry's
Sub: JL Audio 8W6 - $80.00 Local Car Stereo Store
Stealthsub enclosure - $110 MazdaForum Group Buy
Blood, Sweat, & Tears Installing - Priceless

GPS Time
When I have GPS time sync enabled it jumps to Feb 08.... Any ideas? Then this causes RR not to run with the new time out. The time is fine, just the date.

Thanks.

Clean power for my lilli>?
I have lilliput 7" that I have been running off an M2-ATX supply for a year now. he power has seemed to work fine and has been clean without any screen distortion or lines. Recently after having GPS issues I disabled the "Turn USB hub off" in Device manager to solve the GPS problem. Now it would seem the M2-ATX is under more load/draw and the screen is starting to get lines and bounce occasionally. I originally had the screen running off the 12v switched for my vehicle but that was messy too. Any good solutions or separate devices I could use to give good regulated power to my screen? Should i upgrade the PSU? Thanks...

Damn...car battery is dead!
Perfect...
I leave my car parked for a few days (in the winter cold) and I have no battery left. Something MUST be draining it, but...

I pulled the carputer out...
Unplugged the OBD module (which was drawing off the car)...

There is a M2 mounted and powering the USB hub, but it's set to power off with the car...

The 3 amps are still connected to the power wires, but the Remote/On removed...

The touch screen was removed from the car...

Could it be an amp still drawing current, even with it off?

I dunno what else would eat the storage out of the battery...

The battery is a 2 year old Energizer...maybe it's pooched?

This sucks!

Planning a Carputer
After rediscovering this site, I have been researching for the past 2 days and I am thinking of installing a laptop in my 07 Mazda 6. Heres the materials I have in mind to use.

Monitor http://www.mpegcar.com/acatalog/Display_Monitor.html
PC Aspire One AOA150-1126 Mini
TV http://www.mpegcar.com/acatalog/Digital_TV.html
Integration Car2pc
GPS BU 353 + iGuidance

PC-I like that one because it has a large hard drive for such a small laptop. Its also cheap!

TV-That should provide the signal, but I dont know what software would play it or even if that monitor can play a dtv signal.

Integration-Id probably hold off on this for a while. I have auxmod now, Id probably use that for a while. Only reason I would want this would be to get the next buttons on my steering wheel to go to the next track. Ive read car2pc can let me do this.

GPS-Im not pressed to have it, but since i can I should!

Frontend-Well, I dont really like what I have seen very much. Id like to just say ill use itunes but I dont think that is road friendly. I guess any media player that looks like a jukebox would work well. (Big next buttons, convenient scrolling through artists, etc.)

Power-Well, I think I would probably just use an inverter at first, unless or until that doesn't work anymore.

External dvd drive-Dont have any model in mind yet! I like the idea of a tray-less drive through.

Feed back from a pro would be great!

Will ISO 9141-2 work with a car with ISO 9141?
is it backward compatable? I have a 2003 civic and It is 9141, I think the newer civics are CAN and 9141-2. I want to make sure the 9141-2 elm scanners will work with my older protocol.

Anyone know?

No City Names
I just rebuilt my carpc and the navi city name within RR doesn't show. In the past I have never had to do anything to get it to work.

The skin (DigitalFX 4) shows GPS is active and the gauges shows the GPS status. So RR can "see" the GPS. What else do I need to do?

Problem with Sirius not loading
I just rebuilt my carpc and loaded the latest if RR and using DigitalFX 4. I got everything working except for Sirius.

When I hit the Sirius button it doesn't do anything. What can I check to why it doesn't do anything?

Same goes for gas prices but I assume it isn't using the new command?

WTB 8" touchscreen 400cd/m min.
looking for a screen for a buddy that just wants to start up on the whole carputer thing. he is new to the hobby and on a budget. im trying to keep all his costs down. dose anyone have a Xenarc or Dynamix screen for its brightness...

Please let me know what you have and i'll give you a resonable offer. Paypal shipped canadapost or usps.

Some newbie questions
i'm planning on a touch screen with the computer plugged into my deck, what inverter should I use to power the screen and computer? the computer is quite old but still runs fine its a Packard Bell Legend 406CD. Thanks for the help and the best informational site for Carputers!

DC converter with atx power cable to laptop safe?
Is it safe to use a 12v -> 19V DC converter like this
http://www.google.com/base/a/1409962...09194256985715

To connect a m1-atx 12v out from the atx power cable, to a laptop?

eg: splice the 12v out from the atx cable coming from the m1atx, attach it to the adapter shown above, and then plug the adapter into my laptop to get 19v it requires?

Volume control does not work with USB soundcard (Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro)
I tried posting this in the CF forums, but no luck...so I figure Id try posting the problem here.

Right after a clean install of XP SP3, I plugged in my Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro USB soundcard, installed CF, and everything worked perfectly. I did not install the device drivers for the soundcard, XP automatically recognized it as a USB Audio Device. The volume buttons and the mixer in CF would work.

Then all of a sudden (Im really not sure what changed), now when I try to press any of the volume buttons, the volume is stuck at "min." The mixer also does not work. When I slide the volume, it just jumps back to min again. Strangely, the audio output works just fine and I can control the volume manually via the little speaker icon in the task tray. Ive tried turning the "pre as master" option on, as well as installing/uninstalling the device drivers. Still no luck.

Onboard sound works perfectly though, but Id rather stick to my USB soundcard if possible.

Anyone have any ideas?
