PC Processors
Having a look at the web today, I came accross an in depth article that went through processor operating wattages and how much power they used. This very informative article mentioned that certain processors use much more power when in standby than that of older models. Why I thought? It turns out that there are some flaws in these that stop them from working correctly when your computer goes into standby.
What does this mean? Well, it means that on certain PCs; when you think you’ve turned your monster rig that sucks 500 watts or so of power to standby, it will still suck about 20 watts instead of about 5! Ok, its not a lot, but that extra wattage will power a bulb, that display on your DVD player (in fact, all of your DVD player in most cases!). I’ll admit, I leave my PC on all the time; its never off. It is however in standby and therefore I want it to save as much power as possible when I’m not using it. I turn off my monitor and speakers when I press that little standby button on my keyboard.
Press yours too; it could save you up to £100 a year. Windows Vista users too!

Ever wondered what other people were doing at the same time as you? Now you can find out…
Where did health & safety come from?
I think these muppets can answer that; just before they end up in hostpital!

So then, I’ve started a new funnies section. Click on the Funnies catagory on the right for all the posts; when they appear that is. Just remember that I’m in no way responsible for the things you see on other sites!
To start it off, lets all have a go at commanding a small fluffy animal! Click Here.
April is here…
April again………. I could swear that I remember last April……… sort of.
Anyway, this April will be much better I’m sure. Its a time when the weather does that thing where it can’t decide what it wants to do; which means when you go out, it will usually decide it either wants to rain heavy or be more sunnier than is humanly possible to cope with!
Apart from April and the weather, I think I’m probably looking for a normal person who does VB.net. I’ve got the software, and can produce a small amount of things with it, but for anything else, I’m pants! Hence the reason for the programmer…. I don’t know really. I’m not sure I could move to VB, as I’m too into the workstation/server combo and I’m sure that there are way too many commands to remember for making and debugging a program. I’ll stick to my small programs, to see what turns up.
Media page opening
You may notice the new link on the top and right called Media. This like will hold my mixes to come and some very nice wallappers, etc. Click it and have a look through. Beware though, you will need to register to download anything from here, but its worth it. No spam here either, banned on this site.
Take a look if it takes your fancy!
Easter
For todays article, I thought I’d start with a question… What came first…the Easter Bunny or the egg?
I like chocolate….. lots….. but easter eggs are a bit of a pain. They’re big and round (not sounding too bad….
) but they get everywhere. For instance, if you bite them while they’re a whole egg, you’re probably gonna end up with bits everywhere. Or, if you break it up in pieces anyhow and then eat bits at a time, you’re there for ages with a bowl that you know for a fact that you can’t put down, or someone else will pick it up and finish it off for you. How rude! What we need is another way to eat the famous easter egg…….
I was however shocked this past weekend as a shop called Hotel Chocolat sells very thick easter eggs. They’re big too! Which leads to the question….. how do you break them up? Do you use a hammer by banging it, or a rolling pin and going retro whacking style on it? Anyhow, it doesn’t matter because as you can see, they’re so thick that even if you spend 15 mins getting it in to the shape/bits you want, it will still taste of the same goodness that it did before the beating!
I’d like to know how an Easter Bunny brought one of those things into this world! How do you eat yours?
All things iPod!
So then, had a good & bad weekend. My iPod & headphones went missing from my own house! It wasn’t funny either. Anyhow, being that it was a 4th Gen Photo version, I had decided a long time ago that I wanted to upgrade to a iPod Classic. I didn’t hear a lot about it, but I knew it was good and I used my mate ‘the net’ to find out for me what it was really like. The only bad part of this was that I wanted to ebay my old one, as it was probably worth about £40 or so, good condition, never dropped, etc.
Well, thanks to my wonderful, quick-thinking girlfriend, the new one arrived yesterday, looking very flash. It came in a very small box, no iTunes disc either (the other half says you’re supposed to have the net to get one of these, but I sort of dis-agree) but you do get the usual white buds and a usb cable. Also included is a rather strange looking piece of plastic known as the dock adaptor…. For some reason I couldn’t fit this into my dock and I know for a fact it won’t fit if I take the front off of it. First turn on was quite impressive; Apple seems to have outdone themselves once more.
My iTunes was already on 7.6 or whatever version you need for the Classic and I had cleared my library (making sure I backed up all my music beforehand; its not stored in the default place anyhow). Placing items on the iPod is the same as usual and the coverflow is very over-rated indeed. Even if you can get covers for all of your media, it isn’t that flash and its much slower than browsing the album list when you’re in a rush to create a decent playlist.
Video quality is very good and I’m even going to put an old film called The Goonies onto it, as it looks flash! During movies you can change the volume (of course) and brightness of the screen. The iPod will also roughly remember where you are in the film for next time you view. Other video offerings going on the iPod will be 24, The Fast Show and various films that I have in my every increasing collection. Will let you know how it goes; I kept the reciept, just in case it goes wrong…..
This week
Ok, this week is getting more unsustaining as time goes on…. As its half term and I still have to work, I’m finding it hard to be motivated to accomplish the few tasks that I have got to do. Its been about 2 tasks per day so far; amongst a lot of fuss and bother with the Internet, printers, etc. I must say that I do enjoy the alone time, as I can play music and generally feel as if no-ones looking over my shoulder!
Anyhow, new things today… I wish Apple would make a link from iTunes online, so that I could use my iPod with other programs. I generally use Pod Player, but it doesn’t have an easy way to link with music you’ve purchased from iTunes and you have to install iTunes and register it with Apple in order to use the feature… Sounds like one of those terms these companies give us now “do it our way or sod off!” Why can’t software companies take note of consumers more. I know there are hundreds of software panels out there that do surveys, etc, but I’m sure if you’ve been to most sites that have surveys on them, they’re covered with ads and other gumph that leads the mind to wonder if its legit!
Well… I’ll just deal with Pod Player for now, its been good to me
Friday…
So then, Friday again……..
The week goes so fast when you’re not having fun doesn’t it? Or, maybe its the other way round…? Anyhow, it doesn”t matter that its Friday, only that I now get 2 days off from work and staring at a screen most of the day. Anyhow, this week has seen the launch of my new site (you’re reading it now) and for some reason its working well so far.
So then, what do you think of the new site… colour changing themes, blue gallery, etc…. Comment and let me know…
Welcome!
