Cries for help inside a Trenton, N.J., home turned out to be for the birds. Neighbors called police Wednesday morning after hearing a woman's persistent cry of "Help me! Help me!" coming from a house. Officers arrived and when no one answered the door, they kicked it in to make a rescue.
But instead of a damsel in distress, officers found a caged cockatoo with a convincing call.

Demario Atwater, 22, and Laurence Lovette Jr., 17, are accused of the kidnapping and murder of Eve Carson. Lovette is also accused of another murder during that time period. They were on probation when the murders occurred.
New managers are now named in the WAKE and Surham county probation offices and in a regional office according to newsobserver.com.

Phil Spector's attorneys have been told to return to court September 15, when a judge will rule on their request to bar testimony from six women who claim Spector threatened them with a gun.
Prosecutors have insisted that the women's testimony illuminate the pattern of behavior that culminated in Clarkson's death.

The FBI said Friday that fingerprints from a German man's decades-old immigration papers matched to a kidnapping suspect who calls himself Clark Rockefeller, the first forensic link to a conclusion California authorities had already made.
Sean Taylor murder trial to be delayed
Judge Dennis Murphy set a new trial date of March 3, 2009. Taylor was shot in the groin at his Palmetto Bay home during a botched burglary in November. He died the next day. Four Ft. Myers area men were arrested shortly after the killing. The fifth was picked up in May.
Arender trial delayed
Arender is accused of the murder of Hanna Mack
District Judge John Jackson has granted a continuance motion for Shaun Earl Arender, filed by his attorneys. Arender is the man charged with the Sept. 10, 2007 rape and murder of 6-year-old Hanna Mack. Those charges came after DNA samples from his blood matched samples found at the Mack crime scene. Aug. 8 has now been selected as the date for a pre-trial hearing to hear 8 motions and to set a new trial date.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin with jury selection on Aug. 18.

Movement in the Troy Tyo Case
Dena denied request. Scott pleads guilty.
On Friday, July 11, an Allegan County Judge Baillargeon rejected a motion to disregard the jury's verdict, in a motion by Dena Thompson's attorneys. The Jury found that Thompson had convinced her husband, Kristofer, to murder Troy Tyo.
Today, Scott Lathrop, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. He was scheduled to go on trial next week. "He admitted to picking up Kristofer Thompson at the Comfort Inn in Plainwell and driving him to Allegan with the idea there was going to be a fight," Allegan County Prosecutor Fred Anderson Said.

George Thomas Trial for Christian/Newsom Murders
George Thomas is accused of shooting Christopher Newsom and burning his body. He is charged in the carjacking, torture, and brutal slayings of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom last January in 2007.
His trial was to begin next month, August 11, 2008, after issuing a motion for a speedy trial. The motion was withdrawn and the trial rescheduled for August 11, 2009.

Last year Gail Lynn Coontz called a crisis hot-line and said she was going to kill herself and her two children.
After an investigation by the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services was made, they said her kids were safe.
This past March, she killed both of her children, 14-year-old son, Greg, and 10-year-old daughter, Nikki.

On June 14, 2007, Kimberly Vaughn and her three children, Abigayle, 12, Cassandra, 11, and Blake, 8, were shot dead in their family's SUV on an interstate 55 frontage road in Channahon Illinois. All of the children had been shot twice.
