More additions will be added to the soap gallery so customers can easily see what our creations look like "dressed". Thinking About Buying Organic Soap?
This writer thinks the concept of using organic soap is a reasonable one.Everyone wants to save the earth and make it a better place for us humans to inhabit, including using "green and clean" products that matches that concept and makes us feel like we're all doing our part to help. But if you are thinking about plunking down some considerable change for a bar of organic soap, here are some points to consider. Soap and water go together like Jack and Jill, a horse and a carriage, salt and pepper and all the various and sundry wordage one can think of. Obviously, without water, that bar of wondrous pure soap would just sit there in your bathroom staring at you, unsullied, and with no conceivable purpose whatsoever. That being said, once water mixes with that bar of expensive organic soap, the entire scenario changes. If you have city water, your water is likely to contain any number of things common to city dwellers such as Chlorine, water softener salts, rust removers, minerals,Flouride and possibly very low levels of arsenic and chemicals, naming a few common ones. These things are all commonplace in water systems across the USA,in what are deemed safe and consumable levels. So if that bar of soap you're using is pristine and organic, how pristine and organic will it be after your city water has mixed with it?

Customer's loved it, because it has the uniqueness and appeal of old Santa Fe during the holiday season. Makes a terrific gift, I guarantee it. Watch for this item to be added this week. What's That Strange Photo ??? I thought this was so great I had to get my camera and take a picture. That's a Ruby Chard growing out of a bag of potting soil, which I had left near the greenhouse on an old lawn chair. It just goes to show, a little seed with a mind of it's own will volunteer and grow anywhere it finds a suitable perch. Since it's still 81 degrees here in Southeastern New Mexico, it's still happily growing on that old lawn chair.
Stay tuned for some easy pleasy quick recipes. I love to cook and whip up quick low-cal, delicious dishes.

Fall In New Mexico
Fall is on it's way to the Land of Enchantment. Everywhere you go, the smell of fresh green chili roasting is in the air, with the promise of fresh enchiladas, stuffed chili rellanos and salsa's. This is one of my favorite times of year, warm enough for shorts, but with a sweatshirt over a tee, dressing in layers for the cool northern New Mexico air. The leaves in the high mountains of Taos and up on the Colorado border near Durango will also be wearing their fall attire soon, in fiesta shades of gold, red and crimson. Look for the Colorfest show to start around the second or third week of September. The natural beauty of it just explodes into a canvas of awesome wonder and eye candy for traveller's and photographer's. And don't forget to take some pictures of those beautiful chili ristra's already starting to show up at roadside stands.
If travelling north of Santa Fe, be sure to stop at Dixon, New Mexico for some of the best food and ambiance around. The Dixon family is also world famous for the crisp, distinctive, locally orchard grown Dixon Champagne apples. Pick up a bushel, but you'll have to hustle to get them, they sell really fast, and when they're gone, they're gone!
Another tradition is the picking of the pinion's. This past spring, we were blessed with much needed rainfall, and so the Pinon trees are flourishing again after past years of drought and dreaded bark beetles. Hopefully, there will be a windfall of pinon nuts this year to roast. An easy way to roast pinon nuts is to simply spray a baking sheet lightly with non-stick spray, turn the oven to about 400 degrees, and in they go. Stir them on the baking sheet after they've turned a lighter brown color. Some people like to lightly mist them with salt water before roasting. And of course, what's Italian food without a good Pesto? Add those fresh Pinon's you picked yourself. And if you have fragrant Pinon sap on your hands after spending an afternoon with friends picking these, just rubbing some Olive oil on will remove the sap.
If you've just bought a fragrant sack of green chili and are now looking at it doubtfully about what the heck to do with it, here's the thing. Some people have it roasted right after buying it and that's OK. Some of us go the more traditional route and fire up the barbeque, go get some cold beer (or chilled wine), invite a friends over and start roasting. Either way, you're going to have to clean and remove the stem and seeds before putting it in the freezer. Get some good latex gloves. I usually go through at least three pairs of these while cleaning chili. Of course, you could be lazy and just throw em' all into zip-loc bags and just wait to clean em'. One thing to remember, though, they do get hotter with the seeds still in them, even if they're frozen.
There are three main types of New Mexico chili, and they are Barker (extra hot), Sandia (medium hot) and just plain ol' mild. Some people say Barker was so named because of what it does to you after you've eaten a plate of Enchiladas made with it. Sandia is the most popular, and that's what most really good salsa's are made with. Whichever variety you choose, you'll have a taste of New Mexico to warm the cold winter months ahead. And next year, you'll do it all over again, because that's part of the secret Enchantment of New Mexico.

Santa Fe Ambiance - Whole Foods Market
As a Santa Fe native (who is living elsewhere in New Mexico), I travel back and forth across the state frequently. When Whole Foods tucked it's building into a retail spot on Cerrillo's Rd., at first I thought, uh-oh, another big health food chain vying for space in Santa Fe. However, I found it to be one of the most enjoyable shopping experiences. The store is very, very clean, well kept and the employees were helpful and friendly. The bakery is just outstanding. This bakery has some of the best assortment of scones, muffins and coffee at reasonable prices. The product sections are displayed intelligently, that is, some thought went into "what goes where" and how easy and practical it is to find what you are looking for. Again, the help is intelligent and helpful, without being obtrusive. I'm giving this store a high rating. Overall, I thought it was very nice, a fun shopping experience, and an asset to Santa Fe and Cerrillos Rd. Victoria Sharpe Victoria's Natural Soap www.victoriasnaturalsoap.com
