Indian Railways' first -- and Mumbai's first -- railway station cyber cafe at Western Railway's Mumbai Central station was inaugrated by RailTel, a PSU of the Ministry of Indian Railways. Nearly 12 lakhs was expenditure by the general manager in the station . It is projected that there will be more than 12 cybercafes in upcomming days in the stations in the upcomming financial year.

Carrying pet Dog in Indian Railways
It is allowed to carry dogs now on Indian railways but only in First Class, both air-conditioned and none air-conditioned, though non air-condition first-class compartments are rare now a days. If you want to carry dog in first class you also have to have all berths booked, 4 in a cabin or 2 in a coupe (and you'd be guarenteed a coupe). It is for the convinence of other passengers travelling that you book all the tickets in a coupe or all the 4 berths in a compartment. it is also good from the secutiy and privacy point of view. The charge for the dog is very small, about Rs50 only and you can pay this at the time of buying the tickets. Air conditioned First Class (1A) is very expensive, but the old non air-conditioned First Class (FC) is the bargain of Indian Railways. A wonderful FC service if you want to travel anywhere in India during winters. -
A passenger can take pet dog along with him in AC First Class or First Class only, provided he/she reserves either a two berth or a four berth compartment exclusively for his/her use, paying the due charges depending upon the type of train. -
Passenger traveling in other classes are not permitted to carry the dog along with them. But the dog can be booked and carried in the Luggage/Brake Van paying the charges depending upon the type of train. Specially designed Dog Boxes are available in the Brake Van for this purpose. -
Passengers may contact the Parcel Office to book their pet dogs. Passengers detected carrying dogs unbooked will be charged as per extant rules.
Jaisalmer-Bikaner train introduced
A new train started service yesterday between Bikaner and Jaisalmer.
Train 4704 departs Bikaner daily at 06:40, then Gajner at 07:26 and gets to Jaisalmer at 13:45
Train 4703 departs Jaisalmer daily at 09:35, gets to Gajner at 15:03 and gets to Bikaner at 17:25
3-tier air con = Rs 429 Sleeper Class = Rs 163 (not air con)
The times for 4703 didn't seem right so I checked, the train gets to Lalgarh Jn at 15:55 and departs at 17:15 for the final 3 kms to Bikaner, so it may be better to get off the train at Lalgarh and get a rickshaw (and I bet the rickshaw drivers take advantage), I will investigate the reason for this delay.
I mention Gajner (34kms from Bikaner) because I saw Gajner on a TV programme a few days ago and it looks like a place worth visiting, has anyone been to Gajner?
Overnight trains will also be introduced shortly, their times are as follows.
Train 4702 departs Bikaner daily at 23:25 and gets to Jaisalmer at 06:10
Train 4701 departs Jaisalmer daily at 22:45 and gets to Bikaner at 04:40
Difference between shatabdi and Janshatabdi
Jan is short for Janata (people), Shatabdi = new century.
The Jan Shatabdi (People's Shatabdi) was introduced as an 'affordable' Shatabdi, to give 'lower income' people the chance to use these high speed trains.
2S (bookable 2nd class seat) on a Jan Shatabdi is one of the best value seats on Indian Railways, the prices are so low that I don't need to find an example to show you, you will get a padded seat and because the 'windows' have only bars, you will be able view the countryside as you travel (the glass windows in Air Con Chair Class can be difficult to see through), the lower classes on Indian Railway often have a problem with ticketless people entering the carriages during the day, but this doesn't happen on the Jan Shatabdi’s.
