Rogue Men’s Washed Pea Coat, Hurry!

This pea coat by Rogue Men is not your standard pea coat; it is unique in a couple ways. First, the color is not black or navy, but a rusty brown - it’s even cooler in person. Second, the buttons look extremely vintage. They have a trendy “worn” look to them offset by a little teal on the button’s perimeter. The coat comes with a few extra buttons, but it’s worth reinforcing the originals just in case. The coat fits well, looks great, and is a great choice if you need a snazzy winter coat for an affordable pea coat price. Hurry before Overstock runs out.

The Rifles

The Rifles are great punk/indie rock band from England. The vocals have a strong and distinguishing accent like The Smiths, but the guitar parts are edgier like The Clash. Their debut album, No Love Lost, was released in 2006, and another is on the way any day. The Rifles recently released the single “Talking” (video below) that was called the ‘Hottest Record in the World’ by Radio One DJ Zane Lowe. “Talking” is probably my favorite song by The Rifles because it seamlessly transitions between up-tempo note phrasing and introspective “slowdowns.” If you haven’t listened to No Love Lost, go get it and catch up so you are ready for the next album.

Salmon Colored Oddica T

Oddica describes this shirt as, ” The beauty of Edit Evening’s Germ enters through your eyes, gets inside your head, and stays with you for a long time.”

People have described this shirt as manly salmon, girly pink, and my personal favorite, liberal. How could a skull ever be liberal? Politics aside, this shirt stands out in a crowd. It’s a little trippy but in an artistic way. Oddica also sends cool a cool sticker with your order. $15 is a small price to pay for a manly salmon pseudo-skull printed on American Apparel.

Klaxons, A Breath of British Air

Imagine a mix between Radiohead, Bloc Party, and Arcade Fire. Now add a little electronic edge (closer to Thom Yorke’s solo work) and substitute in Band of Horses vocals. That is Klaxons. Their first album, Myths of the Near Future, marks a very solid entrance into the indie scene. The album is diverse (at times weird), but it progresses smoothly in a way reminiscent of Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm or Radiohead’s In Rainbows. The album has some innovative tracks like “Four Horseman of 2012,” but the album’s strength lies in the more classic tracks like “Golden Skanks,” “Atlantis to Interzone” (the video below) and “It’s Not Over Yet.” They also just released an amazing new single, “The Night,” worth acquiring however possible – it’s not in iTunes yet. Check out Klaxons, they are probably in my top 10 new indie.

bands.

4 Pretty Ponies of the Apocalypse

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are the forces of man’s destruction described in the Christian Bible in chapter six of the Book of Revelation. They are traditionally named after the powers they represent: War, Famine, Conquest, and Death.

This shirt by Cotton Factory is hysterical. The Bible + My Little Pony + Nuclear Destruction=Awesome. Enough said. The shirt is printed on a 50/50 blend that shrinks a little and runs a little wide, but I’m not going to complain because the image is so witty. This shirt is $15 currently, but Cotton Factory has tons of $10 sales. If you like clever but tasteful shirts, check them out.

The Good, The Bad, and the Queen

The Good, The Bad, and the Queen (GBQ), was founded by The Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn. Albarn is assisted by The Clash’s Paul Simonon on bass and The Verve’s Simon Tong. This supergroup combines to create a powerful and addictive indie-punk sound defined by Albarn’s deep and gritty voice. The album - self-titled - has a little bit of everything. “Herculean” with its epic, herculean drive and “Kingdom of Doom” (video below) with its slow, deep chords….Even if you don’t like the Gorillaz (I’m not a huge fan), you should still give GBQ a listen. They really are a perfect compromise between The Gorillaz, The Clash, and The Verve.

Way Trippy….Imaginary Foundation T’s

“Somewhere something incredible is waiting to be known” - Imaginary Foundation

The designs by Imaginary Foundation are probably the most abstract on the net. Most of the prints are big and eye catching, but not over-the-top like some Bape and Artful Dodger. They are about the art, not name tags and press. Shirts are $30 and hoodies are between $70-100, but everything is printed on comfy American Apparel. You should also check out the sale section where most things are half price. If you like abstract art and you like wearing it, Imaginary Foundation is a great place to look.

Matt Pond PA : Honestly, Honesty is Everything

“Honestly, Honesty is Everything” - “Honestly” off Matt Pond PA’s Last Light Matt Pond PA is soothing indie rock. The instrumentals are catchy and simple like the Arctic Monkeys, but the sound has genuine depth like Arcade Fire. Sometimes the vocals are ethereal and the music is really powerful, and the other times the beats are catchy and the notes are laced with interesting hooks.

There have been 7 albums thus far, and all are good. My favorite is the most recent, Last Light. I have a few recommendations songs: ‘Honestly’ and ‘People Have a Way’ off Last Light, and ‘Halloween’ off Several Arrows Later. However, Matt Pond PA is one of those bands that does not have any bad songs. Give them a listen, I promise they won’t disappoint.
