Nikon has officially revealed their “digital masterpiece”, the flagship Nikon D3X dSLR. The D3X features a brand-leading 24.5 Megapixel CMOS sensor capturing a level of digital detail never seen before in a Nikon. To avoid chopping up storage cards with all that image data, the D3X also crops at 20.4MP and 10.3MP, allowing for smaller file sizes. At the full 24.5 MP, the D3X can shoot at 5 fps, providing fast-action response for those who focus on moving targets. On the rear of the Nikon D3X, there’s a super definition 3? display with 920,000-dot VGA capability. Add on-board editing features, a battery life that’ll last you 4,400 snaps, and you’ve got an elite dSLR built specifically for the pros. The costiness? $8k. [nikon]

Pianist's Skull Steals Hamlet Scene A concert pianist has appeared on stage in a 22-performance run of Hamlet—26 years after his death. André Tchaikowsky, a Polish Jew who was smuggled out of Warsaw as a child of 7, left his skull to the Royal Shakespeare Company upon his death in 1982. It was finally used in the graveyard scene as the unearthed skull of Yorick, the jester, by actor David Tennant, in performances in Stratford, the Times of London reports.
Actors over the years declined to use the skull as they found it distracting, or it made them queasy. And its provenance was kept secret from the audience and some of the crew until the final performance. “I thought it would topple the play and it would be all about David acting with a real skull," says director Greg Doran.
Big Bird For Thanksgiving Viewed by Thousands NEW YORK—In what has become a Thanksgiving tradition, more than 10,000 locals and tourists alike braved the cold Monday to watch the annual stuffing of the Rockefeller Center Turkey.
The nationally televised event, which has rung in the holiday season for nearly 80 years, began at 5 p.m., when workers propped open the skin flaps of the 55-foot-tall bird, and pushed an 11-ton mixture of bread crumbs, onions, and other fixings into its massive trunk.
“This year’s stuffing is shaping up to be the best one yet,” said Mayor Mike Bloomberg, addressing the crowd from a podium next to the giant avian carcass. “Look at that beautiful glistening turkey!”
Scientists at the University of Zurich have developed a material that never gets wet.
The fabric is constructed of polyester fibers that are covered in a layer of 40-nanometer-wide silicone nanofilaments. These nanofilaments are spiky and cause water to sit in a sphere above the fabric, a permanent pocket of air protected safely below.
The material even reduces drag in water by 20%! I have no idea what sort of implications that has, but I think it's something to do with waterproof sheets.
This is the perfect gift for the alcoholic in your life, or even just the guy who likes to go out and have a few drinks every now and then. The iBreath attaches to the bottom of your iPod and will tell you whether or not you’re under the legal limit for getting behind the wheel. While if you need this to decide if you’re legal you probably shouldn’t be driving in the first place, it’s a nice idea. Pick one up now for $80 from David Steele. [via Geeky-Gadgets]
