Mutton Hot Pot Dinner
Dinner date: November 25, 2008

Number of People: Four
Cost: HK$760 (US$97.5), including 10% service charge
Restaurant name: Foo Lum Restaurant, 73-85 Hennessy Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong.
Tel: 852-2528-2468
Anna's comment: I won some money from Macau casino. At the same time I notice a half-price special deal for shark fin soup, so I took my sister and brother to dinner. We had our favourite dishes of roast goose, mutton hot pot together with crab meat vegetable – a very good balance of diet. However it used up all my winnings.

Duck Soup ??
I made this Chinese/Italian fusion soup with the left over ingredients in my kitchen. It just took a few minutes to cook. Very strong flavour of porcini and duck with added fragrant with black pepper. It is very economic and the pot of soup is good for two persons.

Ingredients
Duck meat - take home from roasted duck dinner (foc)
Parma ham - half pack (HK$25 / US$3.25)
Porcini - half pack (HK$25 / US$3.25)
Bean curd - one cube (HK$3 / US$0.38)
Grinded black pepper

Seafood Pomelo Salad
Who said that pomelo salad is a Thai dish? Today, I made a multi-cultural seafood pomelo salad for my company's no-agenda-lunch. Every month we have three members of the staff volunteer to be the guest chef. In today's NAL, I am one of the chefs.

My pomelo salad is extremely yummy and sold out quickly.

Ingredients:
Thai pomelos - three (HK$78)
Japanese dry mini sardines - one pack (HK$38)
Indonesian cooked prawns - one pack (HK$50)

Seasonings:
Thai fish sauce - any desirable amount (HK$8)
Thai mini limes - two (HK$12.5)
Hong Kong Cantonese XO sauce - one bottle (free item from my sister)

Glutinous Rice Dumpling ???
In today's dim sum lunch, this looks interesting. There is glutinous rice inside the dumpling. But I just can tell whether it is Cantonese or Shanghaiese. It's nice anyway.

Dumpling ?
I missed dumplings in the last Tuen Ng Festival. Today I found it on the restaurant menu, so I ordered it. Actually you can eat dumplings in Hong Kong throughout the year, but more pupularly at Tuen Ng Festival. It is usually served with soy sauce and sugar, just up to your choice.

Anna's comment: My brother bought me festival dinner. We went to the famous goose restaurant to enjoy roast goose. Cantonese eating roast goose is just like Beijingers eating Beijing Duck. If you happen to visit Hong Kong, don’t forget to try one. You can order one whole goose, half or a regular.

Chinese Version Risotto
My Quick and Easy Vegetarian Dinner

Does this look like Chinese style Risotto? I tend to cook Chicken A La King. However it was strange that chicken fillets are not available in the market. So I bought some button mushrooms together with the porcini in my kitchen and made a vegetarian dish.

Use half a can of mushroom cream soup and make it thick. Add in button mushrooms and porcini and pour over plain rice. Isn't it easy, simple, quick and healthy? Extremely ideal for working ladies like me who doesn't have much cooking time, however tired of eating out.

Discounted Sichuan Dinner
We have a discount coupon from Tanyoto, so we went there for a Sunday dinner. Sichuan restaurant in a Cantonese society serves also some Cantonese dishes. We had a combination tonight. The Fish Fraquent Sliced Pork is only graded as slightly hot. The other Fish Maw dish is Cantonese.

A La Carte Six Course Dinner for Two:
Fish Fraquent Sliced Pork
Mushroom Fish Maw with Vegetable
Dan Dan Noodle
Sichuan Dumpling
Almond Tea
Coconut Pudding
Total cost: HK$285, less HK$50 cash coupon, we paid HK$240 (US$30.7) including tips.

Fish Fraquent Sliced Pork ????
There is no fish in this dish, why is it called Fish Fraquent?
Because Sichuan is a basin, people seldom had a chance to eat fish.
So they name it 'fish' just to imagine that they are eating fish.

Moon Cake ??
Mid Autumn Festival is approaching (September 14, 2008), so I buy mooncakes to eat. Traditional mooncakes are sold in four regular size in one big box. Nowadays single mini boxes are available for small consumers like me. I bought the most traditional mooncake with dual egg yolks.

Mooncake shopping tips: Must buy from traditional mooncake producers. Trendy cake shops wants to have a market share and make some so-call mooncakes which might look good but not taste well.
