It just comes up with the page that says it could not connect to the internet. This was SOOO strange because firefox is normally so intuitive and easy to use.
I read a few blogs and they all seem to point to incompatibility with anti virus programs. I'm using Norton and have heaps of problems currently with it.. like the auto protect automatically turns itself off each time I shut down my pc.. so each time I boot up I have to upload some stupid patch from the norton website.. anyways, it expires in 80 days and I will change to a different anti virus.
But I digress.
All the posts explaining why firefox upgrades have not worked have pointed to firewall problems. I did turn it off, still doesn't work. I did find firefox in the program control section of Norton firewall and ensured the program was set to "allow" - still didn't work.
Finally found the answer (in my case)... have to go into program control of Norton firewall and delete the firefox entry... then add it back and then set setting to "allow".
What a bunch of long winded way to solve a problem.
Extract of solution for my versioni of Norton below... there are other solutions for other virus protection programs at http://support.mozilla.com/eu/kb/Configuring+Norton+Internet+Security - check it out.. i really originally didn't believe it was a firewall issue, but i really is!
Norton Internet Security 2002
1. Right-click the Norton Internet Security icon (a blue/green circle) in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen. Select Norton Internet Security. The Norton Internet Security dialog appears. 2. On the left of the dialog, click Personal Firewall, then click Internet Access Control. 3. Look for Firefox in the list of applications in the center of the screen. If you find it, click on it and press Remove. 4. Click Add.... 5. Browse to the Firefox executable. This will by default be C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox. Choose firefox.exe and press Open. An Internet Access Control dialog will appear. 6. In the dialog, select Permit this application access to the Internet and click OK. A Choose Application Category dialog will appear. 7. Choose Web Browsers from the list and press OK.
You should now be able to access the Internet with Firefox.
Was in the the area with Walter, his sister, Chantel and her husband Daniel, so we stopped by at the Italian Festival in Stanley Street, East Sydney.
There were so many people. Highlight was the endless types of cheese (or is it cheeses!) - would have loved to buy heaps, but there were so many people!
We settled on eating ribs with a rocket roll and Italian sausages in a green wrap. OMG it was so delicious. The BBQ sauce on the ribs were particularly mouthwatering.
We washed it all down with coke and sugared donuts... yum! Wanted to get some canoli but they sold out!
BUYING A GORDONIA PLANT We drove over to Ingleside today principally to buy my favourite plant. I call it the fried egg plant because flowers look like fried eggs.. yellow circle on the inside and bright white petals.
Lachlan our friend told us they were a native plant to China.. very sturdy apparently, needs sun but can survive even floods!
He worked in a nursery called Warrianda over Ingleside way and they have them.
It's no ordinary Flower Power, this one is apparently for those in the know because it is buried deep in the bush. But it was just gorgeous, spacious, well laid out and felt really nice.
Here's a pic of Lachlan looking over the nursery!
BAHAI TEMPLE, INGLESIDE We stopped by for a brief visit and mediation of the gorgeous temple today. The people were amazingly welcoming (almost too welcoming).
The temple was so light, open allowing glorious sunlight to beam in... in all directions.
Was amazing. Something which I'd set out to do 6 months ago, and with help from some very motivated residents (especially Bill Cashman) it became a reality on Friday 16th May 2008 at 11am!
Double the numbers I anticipated came. Altogether there were 70 people residents, problem counselling groups, community groups, NSW Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing, industry including ClubsNSW and local clubs (Mounties, Fairfield RSL and Panthers).
Sat next to Tim recently... was SOOO nervous.. but had to turn to him to tell him that No Aphrodisac is one of my fav songs ever!
Big Brother 2008 Ok I was wrong, Terri was the first housemate evicted. Can't believe I was watching BB08!! My prediction wasn't that far wrong, cause Nobbi got two votes.
I'm not convinced that it won't be Nobbi's turn next.
Don't really know the housemates that well, but Dixie and Renee are shaping up to be my favs.
BIG BROTHER 2008 - NOBBI Missed the launch tonight, but heard that the format's changed... there's young and old and new forms of conflict like a pauline hanson admirer, Terri and an indigenous girl, Dixie and japanese guy, Nobbi.
Past experience, the Asian housemates always get voted out first.. let's see what happens with BB08!
I know it's hard to believe but 78% of household disposable income in the Fairfield Local Government Area is lost to local pokies venues. That's almost $330m each year. More info at www.thangngo.com
Frightening!
FLAT TYRE
It was aweful, we were speeding along the M5 around Rabi when our tyre blew. Had no idea what it was and for a little while it seemed like we just ran over something, but soon it was obvious something was wrong, the noise was really loud and sounded sickly, and the steering got stiff.
We were in such a panic and starting shouting instructions to each other, and I was mindful to slowly indicate and pull into the breakdown lane.
It was around 11pm and the road was pitch dark, only lit up by speeding trucks and cars, some turned on their high beam to check out the hazard ahead.
Once we were parked, it was obvious that the tyre on the driver side was completely bare.. we must have been driving fast for a while (I can still smell the burnt rubber now).
Waited for ages for the NRMA and then the tow truck to come, cause it was too dangerous to change the tyre on the drivers side with trucks and cars speeding around us.
While we were waiting, Walter kept on taking about how he thought he was seeing people's shadows and recalling various mass murders who picked up their victim along the highway, names like Ivan Milat came up.
We couldn't sit in the car of course for fear of another car ramming us from behind in the dark and rain. So we had to stand behind the guard rail just waiting for help to arrive!
We always go for the food and this year is no different... roti, fried meats, beef balls, som tum, larb, spicy soup, savoury mango wrapped in betel leaves - what more could you ask for?!
Thai New Year: Wat Pa Buddharangsee
The best thing about going to Thai New Year at Wat Pa Buddharangsee was the great food... Thai, Burmese, Lao. Hot as hell, but delicious. Particular favs were the noodle in hot thai soup, fresh garlic and mango in bettle nut leaf and beef balls. My mouth is still watering!
Oh and how can I forget som tum (thai or lao style) with fresh green mango made in front of you and you get to chose how hot, how sweet and how sour.
Walter and I went with his sister and husband to the annual Thai new year celebration at Wat Pa Buddharangsee, Leumeah.
They had the best food stall, Thai, Lao, Burmese and even Sri Lankan.
One of our first delights was 'roti' with curry... not your traditional Thai fare, I know, but you can often buy it at local food stalls in Thailand. Apparently it was introduced to Thais by Burmese who crossed the border, they in turn got it from the Indians.
There's also a sweet version of roti which involves condensed milk. Needless to say I love the sugar hit of the roti dessert as well.
In this video, Walter explains how to eat roti.
Demi Sorono - So you think you can dance - star! She's been a part of The Movement Hip Hop Crew since 2005, which included gigs at the Big Day Out with Digital Primate and Queen Khadeeja, dancing with Wicked Force Breakers as support acts with TV Rock for Rogue Traders, and performing at the Indigenous Dreaming Festival. She also won the 2005 Australasian B-Girl Supremacy Competition in Wellington, New Zealand!
We visited MGM Grand Macau mid January this year only a few weeks? after the grand opening.
Tried to go for Yum Cha, but fully booked out... Even I thinks it rather classy for a gambling joint!
And it's just across the road from the famous Kwan Yin Statue, I guess it's whatever god you want to worship.
EARTH HOUR Earth Hour: Tonight 8pm. Our local paper had pics of 150 local community people in the Fairfield/Cabramatta area on the front wrap... somhow I fluked two pics on the front page, he he.
Originally started in Sydney in 2007 - in 2008 it's gone global, to over 20 cities.
BEACH AT STANWELL TOPS We decided to go for a swim at this gorgeous beach. Left the house at 7am to beat the holiday traffic rush.
Was overcast and the water was cold! So only dipped our feet in the water to get some mother earth healing and went home. Was lovely in the water, was lovely to get the sea air!
I was in the City today (Easter Sunday) and had an hour or so to kill, so I decided to go for a walk and capture the things I love about Sydney (CBD).
I was surprised by some of them, but not for others.
In the posts here and others to come are my fav things, in no particular order!
Starting with the obvious.. the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, taken from Mrs Macquarie's Chair/point...
FAV THINGS: THANG And of course, I've had my fair share of ups and downs with myself.
I'm not perfect (no where near) and I know my weaknesses all too well... maybe that's why I've learned to be easier on myself... it's when you recognise your weaknesses and know you've got a long way to go that you learn to love and understand yourself.
Don't you find it's hard to look at yourself closely - and I don't just mean physically. I tried this today by taking close ups of myself - eye and mouth here - it's hard to look at!
FAV THINGS: WALTER Of course, you couldn't spend almost 18 years with someone without them being your favourite person. This pic of Walter was taken at lunch today in Stanley street, East Sydney - ironically we had delicious Japanese (and not Italian - sorry!).
I was really moved this year and saw it as a significant event, rather than just another public holiday (or a time to avoid double demerit points!).
The picture I took here is of St Mary's, Sydney to represent Easter as they were having their Easter Sunday service as I was walking past (doesn't mean I'm a catholic or that I support Cardinal Pell, or even that I support World Youth Day).
FAV THINGS: HATE WAR Took these at the War Memorial in Sydney's Hyde Park. Could be contentious because I hate war, and you could argue highlighting the Memorial could be to glorify war.
But if you look at this sculpture which was commissioned for the Memorial and is placed in the centre, you can see clearly the message about the futility of war!
