Tori Amos Song Interpretation Update: Playboy Mommy
And its about FREAKIN’ time, I know
And the funny thing is–Playboy Mommy really needs no explanation or interpretation. The song hits you in the gut like a ton of bricks with its obviousness. But, hey, it have me a chance to say my 500-word piece on one of my favorite Tori Amos songs (shout out to the A Piano version though. Geez…what a powerful three minutes!).
Like Spark, whenever I hear Playboy Mommy it takes me back in time to when I first purchased Choirgirl (the day it came out) and listened to the album from beginning to end 10 times in a row. The excitement of a new (more…)

Lamenting ADP: I Want My Tori Amos!
(The ADP tour being long-over is hardly an excuse to stop blogging about our fave red-headed songstress. But, hey, its the only one I’ve got. Sorry, folks
Let me give this another shot!)
While most of us have Legs & Boots albums to inject into our veins, others of us are still jonesing for what used to be a constant supply of Tori Amos news. Yeah, we’ve had Perez Hilton appearances, talk about the musical, this comic book thang, and random magazine articles, but nothing compares to Pip’s Me and a Gun performance, Santa’s onstage antics, or the palpatation-inducing frenzies we all experience upon the receipt of the nightly setlist.
In a vein attempt to assuage my aching heart, I’ve been checking YouTube daily for lost concert footage or perhaps another camera angle of the MAAG w/a band performance. But, alas, what do I see (when I sort by “date” anyway)? Talented young folks (more…)

This is a quickie…still on the road (I’m in a really cool historic home turned hotel in Los Angeles right now!). But I was perusing da ‘bay just now and saw this gem. Some determined musician went around on got his/her drumhead signed by Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow, Fiona Apple, (more…)

China2NY Fave: Tori Amos on MTV’s Revue (Old School)
Hey everyone!
I’m still travelin’ the United States on internship interviews, but I found myself near a computer and wanted to say hello.
I want to thank Kelli for the wonderful series of Legs & Boots reviews that appeared last week. This has been one of my more successful categories…hopefully it made everyone better prepared for their boot purchase experience.
There are things going on in the Tori Amos world since (more…)

Tori Amos Legs and Boots Review: San Diego in the Spotlight

Featured Dolls: Santa AND Isabel!
Rating: 4.9 out of 5 wigs
San D, CA. Again one of the top three boots, just for controversial reasons. And you get two dolls! Woohoo! Santa and Isabel! They only do one ‘original’ each the rest is like the best of the tour. You get some funky Dan Phelps bass on She’s Your Cocaine, it is so fricken’ hot, my god! Get this boot! The performances are absolutely superb.
Matt Chamberlain’s improv. at the beginning of Hootchie Woman is amazing. I love that man and I want to have his children. And I love the fact that Tori allows the band to improvise and add to her (more…)

Tori Amos Legs and Boots Review Series: Doin’ it in the Desert

Featured Doll: Santa
Rating: 4 “Sweet the Sting” wigs outta 5
Santa in a Cowboys Guernsey. Ok, well yeah, it’s hot. Santa does Sugar, Secret Spell, Cocaine and Swirl. And at times like these, you thank the good lord that Tori decided to bring the band on tour again. Because, Sweet the Sting with the band is all kinds of hot! Seriously. I love this song! You can’t go wrong with a song about two pianos getting it on! Tori is talkative in this one, with a lot of energy, and we get some Father Lucifer, some Tear in Your Hand, some Lust, some liquid diamonds, some Jackie, and an improv. about ‘remembering 44 years ago maybe your mothers were there and a bird that got a wing caught and something about a stop sign’ – of course, Tori is talking about the assassination of JFK in 1963. Beulah Land? It’s yummy. Not just because Tori mentions (more…)

Tori Amos Legs and Boots Review Series: Southern Livin’
All reviews in this series written by Kelli.

Featured Doll: Isabel
Rating: 3.7 out of 5 wigs
So Tori/Isabel does a lovely improv. to start off the show which mashes up ‘Dixie Land.’ If you’re from the South, well then, it’s seriously lovely! It’s a lovely standard Isabel set, but unless you’re Izzy mad, I would buy a later Izzy boot with ‘Mountain’ on it. The Power of Orange Knickers makes its debut, it’s nice, so is Putting The Damage On. I could listen to that song all day, it’s just so… pretty. But the winner of this one has to be Cooling (w/Brambles) into Cool On Your Island. It’s a twofer! A twofer of beauty! I seriously needed gauze for my eyes! So pretty! 1, 000 Oceans into Hotel, well this one she doesn’t f**k up!

Yo, George! Izzy in da house with some Mountain. Her message? “Drop beats, not bombs!” Word. Ok, so this is an ill version of (more…)

Tori Amos Legs and Boots Review Series: The “Middle Kiddles”
(Middle Kiddle is the only cute phrase I could come up with to describe the U.S. states in the middle of the country. Sorry…its bad I know.) ~China2Ny

Featured Doll: Santa
Rating: 5 out of 5 Wigs
“Put your hands up for Detroit.” MI. “We love this city!” Sorry, I couldn’t help it. Santa is in town, sir! Reasons to buy this boot?
1) The only release of My Posse Can Do. She can flip her hair, I can flip you off! It’s solid!
2) The debut of the wonderful, resplendent, She’s Your Cocaine!
3) Another great version of (more…)

Tori Amos Legs and Boots Review Series: Oh Canada!
All reviews for this series written by Kelli.
Montreal, Canada
Featured Doll: Isabel
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Wigs
C’est bon! It’s the first Izzy boot, and if you are anything like me, you find Izzy pretty cool. She does In The Springtime of his Voodoo, which I personally wanted over Tubular Bells in Perth, damn you, and it is freakin’ sweet. Tombigbee and Scarlet’s Walk are awesome; however, you don’t get the whole ‘you just lift your lamp’ reference, because well, duh, you’re not there. Izzy lifts a lamp, so that’s what peeps be cheerin’ ‘bout in that line.
The Montreal show also has the only Playboy Mommy available in the boots, so if you have a special connection to that song, it’s worth it for the song, which is executed perfectly. The star of this show is the ‘C’est bon’ improv. where Tori reveals that she got a tattoo (more…)

Tori Amos Legs and Boots Review Series: East Coastin’ It
All reviews for this series are written by Kelli.
Syracuse, NY
Featured Doll: Clyde
Rating: 4 out of 5 Wigs
So, first up is Syracuse, NY. Was it that long ago that I was checking the site every hour to see if it was ready for download? Seems so. Syracuse was opened up by Clyde, aka, emoTori. Clyde does Little Earthquakes with a kick ass ‘can I reach you’ bridge. Beauty of Speed and the rare Roosterspur Bridge are awesome. Parasol/Spark is cool, as is the first improv. – Spank that Ass. While Tori was getting dressed, some guy came into her changeroom and the ditty just writes itself really. It’s funny and cute and I’ve even found myself singing it.
Next up is Northern Lad. If you are a fan of this song, buy this boot. It’s a great version, with lots of emotion. Tori is practically seething. The improv., the proper improv. before Yes, Anastasia, is (more…)
