Pharos rolls out Traveler 137, coming this quarter for $599.95

3.5’s the magic number with Pharos’ new Windows Mobile-based offering: 3.5-inch display — wide VGA, no less — and 3.5G data. The Traveler 137 rolls deep with the best HTC has to offer (owing in no small part to their ODM partnership with Inventec, we figure) with 512MB of Flash, 256MB of RAM, AGPS, 7.2Mbps HSPA on T-Mobile USA (seriously!) and European bands, WiFi, 3-megapixel cam, and the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure. Kinda sounds like a keyboardless X1, doesn’t it? Look for it to hit retailers this quarter for a nickel under $600.

Kengo Kuma Houses for Muji
Kengo Kuma has designed two prefabricated houses for Muji They are small, simple, beautiful, can come in many variations, are made of standardized kits of parts, and are generic in a very Zen kind of way. Just like the rest of Muji’s stuff! Both house prices start around $200,000 USD, so it’s definitely …

D-Link’s DCS-1130 WiFi monitoring camera sends footage to the web

D-Link’s DCS-1130 WiFi monitoring camera sends footage to the web

Yeah, it’s kind of creepy, but we’re sure D-Link had the noblest of intentions when crafting the DCS-1130 802.11n Wireless Network Camera. Said device offers paranoid homeowners the chance to login from practically anywhere and view live streams of their camera, and the 16x digital zoom is sure to give you a totally pixelated look at whatever stranger happens to meander around in your yard before moving on. Better still, those who simply can’t go a moment without a look back home can view the live streams on a 3G cellphone, though a wireless router supporting WPS must be involved in the configuration. Mum’s the word on a price, but it should be noted that a wired-only version (DCS-1100) will also be available for those who don’t trust the airwaves.

Japanese DIYer shows ASUS how not to make an Eee Tablet PC

Japanese DIYer shows ASUS how not to make an Eee Tablet PC

ASUS hinted at some alternative Eee form factors in the Spring of last year, but it’s a Japanese modder that’s showing the company exactly how it shouldn’t approach an Eee-branded tablet PC. It’s a touch tough to understand exactly what’s going on, but here’s what is (partially) clear: the hack job took around ten hours to complete, and the outer edges are inexplicably covered in aluminum foil. It’s encased in some sort of transparent housing — which we suppose is pretty nifty for showing off the internals — and the retrofitted touchpanel provides the tasty tablet functionality. Apparently this guy spent around ¥11,000 ($128) over and above the cost of the Eee PC in order to construct the final result pictured above — the question is: was it really worth it?

Kleer now offering DigiFi Opera wireless earphones in the US

Kleer now offering DigiFi Opera wireless earphones in the US

Well, it’s been a bit of a long time coming, but it looks like the Kleer-based DigiFi Opera wireless earphones are now finally available in the US, and directly from Kleer itself, no less. From the looks of it, these are the exact same phones that folks in Korea have had at their disposal for quite a few months now, with them still promising to provide CD quality sound over a 2.4GHz wireless link, and let up to three other folks listen to a single source. According to the company, you can also expect to get up to ten hours of playtime, with a USB cable provided to handle the charging duties. If that sounds like the wireless fix you’ve been looking for, you can snag the earphones right now in your choice of black or white for just under $100 by hitting up the link below.

Point of View debuts ExpressCard-accommodating Mobii PC netbook

Point of View debuts ExpressCard-accommodating Mobii PC netbook

It’s apparently been taking a wait and see approach until now, but Netherlands-based manufacturer Point of View has finally jumped into the netbook waters and, as you can see, it’s blended right in. That sameness, as you might have guessed, extends right down to the specs as well, including a 10.2-inch display, a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Windows XP or LInpus Linux for an OS and, somewhat more uniquely, an ExpressCard slot, which will hopefully become an increasingly standard option in the year ahead. No word on a release ’round here, expectedly, but folks in Europe can apparently pick one up now for a reasonable €280, or just under $400.

Mac OS X on Netbooks: What Works, What Doesn’t

iriver’s Framee-M digiframe: only tolerable for Mickey enthusiasts

iriver’s Framee-M digiframe: only tolerable for Mickey enthusiasts

Man, it’s amazing the difference a single letter makes. Take the Framee-L, for example — a stately, classically styled digital photo frame that would do practically any coffee table proud. Now have a gander at the almost frightening Framee-M (above). iriver has evidently coerced Disney to afford it the luxury of producing this here digiframe, which — sad to say — looks downright shoddy from here. The unit will be made available in both Mickey and Minnie flavors, with each housing 1GB of internal storage space, a 3.5-inch 320 x 240 resolution display, SDHC expansion slot, a built-in clock and a multimedia player for good measure. It’s taking Japan by storm as we speak for ¥9,999 ($111).
