Masquerade
Calling LJ Braintrust!

I'm looking for video files (youtube works!) of movie scenes with masquerade balls. I'm having a Masquerade Ball this halloween, and I'd like to cut together a bunch of scenes to play on all the tv's / projector screen.

I've so far got:

Labyrinth (obviously!)
Van Helsing (probably the best part of that movie!)
Amadeus
Romeo + Juliet (both human versions and the anime version)
Black Orpheus
Doctor Who - Girl in the Fireplace
Masque of the Red Death
Mirror Mask
Tanz der Vampire
The Tudors
Oh! And Phantom of the Opera

Any other ideas? If you can't find a youtube vid to post a link, just post the name of the film and I'll track it down. I have GoogleFu.

Glasgow.
Really these are separate galleries, but there really aren't a lot of Glasgow pics that aren't around the Cathedral, so just one post. :)

The best part of rain? Reflections.

Follow the creepy brick road.

Across the bridge and into the Necropolis.

The Cathedral from one bit of the Necropolis.

St Mungo's museum of Religious Artifacts. MUNGOS!

The Cathedral from the topmost hill in the Necropolis.

The sky is clearing.

Seriously, it goes on forever.

Check out what the lens flare did about 3/4ths of the way down. Random! COOL!

And some early morning factory smoke in the distance.

The bridge we crossed to get in.

Another angle of the Cathedral.

Jumble of stones and statues.

I'm a sucker for these.

I actually knocked on the door.

This is the Glasgow hospital/infirmary. And its right next door to St. Mungo's. Seriously.

Here's a few from Auchentoshan Distillery:

MMMMM! Delicious! One of my favourites!

The main shopping area of Glasgow.

And seriously. They're selling coffee out of a TARDIS!

Coppuccino. HAH!

Well, Scotland... we say goodbye. It was amazing and incredible and I'm coming BACK!

Oban.
Only two galleries left in Scotland! Oban, and Glasgow! Then we're going to take a nice break from Whiskey trips and I'll put up my NM photos from this last trip. :)

Oban is a coastal city, full of maritime traffic and swans and gorgeous views of Scotland's many islands. It is also windy, rainy and quite cold. Or it was when we were there.

So beautiful when they're silent.

Walking by the sea.

The town, and the coliseum built in 1897, Macraigs Tower.

A church in the hillside.

Looking out at the islands.

Swans!

Inside the pub...money from everywhere!

The slice of view we got from our expensive and crappy hotel room.

Race for the Cure
A girl I've worked with in the past asked me to participate in this the other day and I thought to myself "Why the hell not?"

I went onto Charity Navigator and checked them out, and they have a pretty spectacular rating. So I decided to go for it. My friend Ann and I registered, and we're going to buy pink "Save the Ta-tas" T-shirts and run in them.

I'm throwing this out there in case anyone wants to help out and make a donation, but its not a big deal, I'm not pushing anyone. I don't have to raise a minimum, so don't feel obliged unless you want to donate. :)

I've never done anything like this before, so it'll be a great experience just to finish it. Plus training for it has been a great motivation to continue working out three times a week and to begin doing more cardio.

I'm pretty excited! Its June 7th, in DC. Wish me luck!

Glenfinnan Viaduct
Glenfinnan Viaduct was at the top of the list of Things I Had To See In Scotland. Luckily, it was very close to the route we took from Inverness to Oban, and it worked out spectacularly. Apart from the visitor's center being closed, and there not being a public restroom for miles.

The Loch across the highway from the Viaduct. I swear they used that loch in GoF.

The viaduct and a bit of sunlight.

Luckily, the road goes right through the arch!

So does the stream!

Seriously, how beautiful is that?

I climbed a huge boulder to get this one. :)

Wide angle.

And up the road just a bit, with a spectacular view of the Loch, is this old church.

Which we fully believe is Hogwart's.

It was a wee bit too much to hope for another rainbow. But we got a perfect day. How many of those do you get? It was amazing. I'll never forget it as long as I live.

Unexpected side-effect
A happy and unexpected bonus of having lost weight and fitting into two-size-smaller jeans occurred to me yesterday.

The jeans I'm buying are now actually the proper LENGTH. They're not dragging on the ground and getting all ratty in two days. And I don't have to roll them up.

Spectacular. :)

Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle.
From the Speyside region, we went over to Inverness and after a quick stop off for a sandwich, we went on to the storied and fantastical Loch Ness.

We stopped several times along the way, once to see the movie at the Loch Ness Discovery Center, in which the basic theme of "there's no monster, dammit!" resounded, and several times to take photos. Oh, and once to catch our breath after almost colliding with a truck head on at high speed because he just HAD to pass that sedan.

It was a picture perfect day, and probably our best day in Scotland.

Sun on the water.

Far across to the shore.

Looking south.

Urquhart Castle. I watched The Water Horse again on the plane on the way to NM this past trip, and when the kid is riding Crusoe, you can actually see this Castle. Awesome.

Raining in Inverness.

Everyone loves a trebuchet. Don't they? ;)

From the top of the tower in the photo before the last.

One of the phenominon that the Loch Ness Discovery Center claims is responsible for the Monster stories. The boat is long gone, but the wake is still hanging around.

The storm, threatening us.

As we climbed the hill, I took this. The rains had started.

We went inside and saw a model of how the castle used to look.

Then we came outside and I freaked out and ran across the parking lot to take a million of these.

Just one of the many reasons not to hide your head when its raining. You might miss something amazing.

Further down the way, another Loch, with snowcapped mountains rising straight out of it.

And more sundrenched rainshowers.

From there, we went on to Glenfinnan, but you'll have to wait til another day for those photos :)

Balvenie Castle.
I love ruined castles. I almost love them more than still standing castles, because my imagination rebuilds it for me and I see it the way it was, before it crumbles back to the way it stands now.

Balvenie Castle stands on the hill above Glenfiddich, looking out over Dufftown and the highlands, a silent witness.

9 Years.
Tonight, Mark and I are celebrating our 9 year anniversary!

We're going out to dinner and to see Iron Man! I'm very excited! I even bought a new dress!

I was 21 when I got married. It was a long time ago, and I bet you if you'd asked any of my friends (or even my mom!) they would have given you long odds on this relationship making it. We've grown together, we've learned how to deal with each other, and we've always tried to remember to respect each other.

Also, we have seperate TVs and computers and cars and personal spending bank accounts. I can't tell you enough how easy it has made things to not be stepping on each other or in each other's way all of the time.

Its not always perfect. It never is. People who tell you they don't have problems are lying. Everyone fights once in awhile. But its rarely ever serious, and we keep coming out stronger and more in touch with the way that one another operates inside their head.

9 years! I'm proud!

BWAAAAAAAAAAAH HA HA HA HA HA HAHAHAHA!

Battlestar Galactica Apollo Costume Adult Dog tag NEW

OMG When did Apollo EVER wear HORRIBLE FAKE LEATHER PONTS??!

Also, is that the closest approximation of Jamie Bamber they could come up with?

Glenfiddich
Glenfiddich is the most popular Single Malt in the world. In fact, they are so big that when we got there and started our tour, we were honestly shocked to be told they are independantly owned. We had mistakenly assumed they were part of another huge beverage conglomerate like Pernod Ricard or Diageo. Now that we know better, good for them!

Property from the parking lot.

Daffodils coming up.

Inside the mash tun

Fifteen stills in this stillhouse. (two of them are beside me) I believe he said there were EIGHT stillhouses. WOW.

Glenfiddich 1937. A bottle of this was recently auctioned off for $20,000. Thats not just a price tag in a store. Thats what someone ACTUALLY paid for it.

Inside the Cooperage onsite. Technically part of the Balvenie site, but both are owned by Glenfiddich.

A LOT of barley on the malting floor.

The pro turning the barley.

And then there's me.

Inside the kiln.

Looking at the inside of the pagoda roof.

The kiln floor. Trust me when I say it feels like Tucson and smells like heaven.
