90 body to a 94 4wd frame
Has anyone swapped a 1st gen 2wd body to a 2nd gen 4wd frame, and if so were there any major differances? I have a 90 2wd standard cab long bed in immaculate condition, less than 100k on truck. Only problem with it being that its a 2wd and has the 3 speed auto tranny. I recently picked a 94 4wd standard cab long bed with less than 5k on the rebuilt 47re and transfer case. For a while I was considering fabbing up the supension and bringing the 4wd running gear to the 2wd frame but with some thinking and after talking to some people I've come to the conclusion that it would be easier and alot less expensive to run the 94 frame and running gear. Eventually I will be running the p pump and inter cooler but thats another subject. My main concern with the swap is that there could be some differances that I might run into that could slow down the process majorly, body mount location etc. If anyone has any insight or has made this conversion I would appreciate any help passed my way. Cold Weather CEL question on 07 6.7
The past two weeks have had us at -25 here in Anchorage. My truck has been throwing a check engine light on cold starts. After the truck has run a bit and warmed up the light normally goes out. I haven't been by the Dodge dealer yet to see what code it is throwing. Anyone else in the cold climates have this issue. This is a first as it normally isn't this cold here in Anchorage.



Starter contacts?
Stopped on the way to work today and when I restarted the truck the starter would not disengage and when I shut the key off the engine would not turn off either. Has anyone else seen this? I suspect the starter contacts might going bad and when they stuck they were back feeding the shut off solenoid relay. Thanks for any suggestions. [coffee][coffee]



A little hope for you 48RE guys....
We all hear about all the tranny's that fail for what ever reason. I thought it would be nice to hear about one that is lasting. :)

I just turned 100K on my 05 dually. 70,000+ of the miles have been pulling my flatbed trailer at a gross weight (gcvwr) of around 30,000 pounds +/- a couple thousand .

Now, it does have a converter and vb so it's not exactly stock, but ALL of the other internals are original.

Not bad, huh !!!

New low stall converter or new truck?
So I have been asking Goerend a million question about installing one of his low stall single disk converter and upgraded valve body into my bone stock truck. Why do I want to do this, because I hate the factory high stall converter so much, that I am willing to dump my truck for cheap if I can't get a lower stall converter into it. So Dave answered all my questions, then gave me about 45 minutes of more info to digest. Lots of good info. But now I have a problem with installing a low stall converter. Sounds like my check engine light could start coming on. He explained to my why it could happen, something about the computer isn't seeing enough slippage? Something about input/output speed that the engine/trans see's. I don't know, he made it make sence at the time. And he said it could also have to do with driving style. Some people have problems, some don't. I drive like a old man. Very light throttle everywhere.

So my question is, for those who have installed a low stall converter. Did you CEL come on? I would like to know on average, how many people have to deal with this. Because to tell you the truth, i'm not going to be driving around the the CEL coming on, and having to reset it all the time. I'll just sell the truck.[duhhh]

And it's an 2007 with the 5.9. 11500 miles



Hood Spring
Anyone know where I can get a hood spring from (passenger side)?

Also, once I have one anyone know how hard they are to put on?

Twin problems...
Man, I wish it was twin sisters at this point. That problem would be easier to deal with...[tapdshut]

OK, so I have a 62/65/12 over an HT3b. I finally was able to put a boost gauge on the bottom turbo. I was only seeing about 10-12 psi @ 50psi overall. Well, I found the problem and it was a bearing on the the HT3b, so I swapped out bearing housings and compressor housing with a new turbo today and now I am having high egt problems. I opened my waste-gate up so I am only hitting maybe 45psi. However, my EGT's are through the roof.

On stock programming I am seeing 1100*-1200*. Before this problem I was barely able to hit 1200* with electronics on Kill. I cannot find a boost leak, my overall boost is still 45. My bottom turbo boost is only like 10 or so.

What should I be looking for. I have to get this figured out first thing in the morning as I am supposed to be on the road. Any ideas would be great. I am pulling it back into the shop in the AM. New turbo parts were very tight and looked great. I am going to drop the intake off in the morning and make sure the compressor wheel isn't hitting anything. But, I am at a loss with this one.

If my top turbo isn't being fed air will it run hot like that? Is there some reason the bottom turbo wouldn't spool and feed the top?

47re tranny problems
I have a 98 12 valve with a 47re. I don't think it ever shifted right since I bought it. But now it is very bad . If you put it in drive with or without the o/d off. As soon as you give it throttle the t/c will lock up and kill the engine. It also will not start out in 1st unless you put it in 1st. For a while it would not shift out of 1st at all even when you manually shift it. I want to put a built tranny in it, but really need to drve for a while first. I just replaced the two solenoids and nothing changed. I think I'll have to take it to the dealer unless someone can help me. I thought the two solenoids would fix it. But I don't want to throw away anymore money. Also every once in a while it will all work properly, but if you come to a complete stop, or shut it off it will start acting up again. I searched all the threads and didn't see anybody with a truck that locks up and dies off idle. Thank you.



VW Jetta TDI/4 Door Wrangler
Ok guys. My wife is killing me. [dummy] She has been wanting a new 4 door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon since they came out. I have been wanting a VW TDI since 06. She has also wanted a TDI until those 4 door Wranglers came out.
Jeep=16/20mpg/4x4/Fun TDI=40mpg plus/40MPG/40MPG!!!!! For one, I think the 4 door jeep is a slap in the face. There should have never been a 4 door jeep. Its no longer a jeep. JMO. Anyway, I know the guys who have owned 06 TDI's and love them. I don't know anyone with an 09 TDI or a 4 door Jeep. Any owners out there??? What vehical would you choice and why? And please no, huh..... Its a diesel, thats why I would pick it. lol Pros/Cons each. Help me help her (wife) make a decision. Zero percent on the TDI, lifetime power train on the other. Thanks guys. thinking about trading for a 2008 cummins
Hey All

I have a 2001 4wd cummins 5spd that gets 18-19 in town and thinking bout tradin for a 5700 mile 2008.. looks like the new cummins have some lovers and some haters.. I only tow my boat and dont haul more than a few hundred pounds most days, but I like my diesel! The other choice is gonna be a new chevy 1500...

DOT regulations on mufflers!!
does anyone know if the DOT requires that a diesel pickup must have a muffler?? if ure hauling for hire? isn't the turbo considered a noise suppresor and what i have found out is considered good enough for the DOT? i had a DOT tell me that my 5" straight pipe on my truck wasn't going to cut it and i needed to put the muffler back on.

some help on this one would be great.

what would be a better turbo for my setup
a 62/13/71 or 64/12/65 gettin rid of the SPS66 lookin to get somethin smaller but not to small the 66 spooled pretty good just lookin for somethin with a little more low end power

Torque Converter
I think my torque converter is going out. Its kinda weird. It will slip when i go around turns and i was just going to live with it until today when i punched it to get around someone the RPM's went up but it did not accelerate the way it normally does.
What torque converter do you all think i should go with and about how much is it going to cost me? And about how much do they cost to install?



Evil Twin Kit Issue!
Everything was going great till i went to put the arc flow on and the line thats in the kit will only work with a stock intake horn! Anyone else have this problem?? Is there a new line in the kits?
