Movie Review - Contract
If Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) gave us an inside view of underworld with Satya and an overview of underworld with Company, then it would be suffice to say that his latest offering Contract gives no viewpoint on underworld at all. This precisely summarizes Ram Gopal Varmas third installment on the underworld trilogy. The realistic effect of RGVs earlier films is conspicuously missing from Contract.
Movie Review - Kismat Konnection
Film is one of those feel-good love stories set in a rich NRI backdrop having a customary Indian narration. Hindi films of late have been mainly concentrating on locations rather than bothering to do something about an item called story. Shahid Kapoor, fresh from the success of Jab We Met, is his usual self and delivers a sincere performance. Vidya Balan, who has a graceful charm around her, is as natural as ever.
Movie Review - Mehbooba
Watching Afzal Khans Mehbooba evokes mirth and nostalgia in equal parts. The movie, which has almost taken a decade in the making, results in the leading actors appearances and sizes changing from scene to scene. The costumes too look very funny and the listless choreography of the many songs finally dates the film to the mid-eighties to mid-nineties period.
Movie Review - Love Story 2050
Director Harry Baweja, who has done quite a number of films with Ajay Devgan in the lead, now masterminds the launch of his great-looking son Harman Baweja into Hindi movies. Bawejas presentation of the future with flying cars, teleportation, talking robots, and holograms is excellent; but what about the present? The same routine of Hindi films shot abroad for no reason and the lead actors falling for each other not even bothering to ask the others contact details returns to haunt the viewers.
Movie Review - Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
Surprisingly, the film is funny and genuinely youthful. The director manages to captivate with his handling of the oft-repeated subject that could easily have been made into another boring affair. Should the film taste any success at the box-office, the director alone has to take credit for that. A.R. Rehman appears to have been in his elements while scoring the music.
Movie Review - Summer 2007
Quite often, a raging issue is made into a Bollywood film. Summer 2007, directed by Suhail Tatari, falls into this category and projects a disturbing issue: Farmers committing suicides. There's a hitch-The film only manages to highlight the crisis in patches, offering no clear-cut solution. Instead, it focuses on the 'awakening' of the careless and carefree youth, just like Rang De Basanti did.
Movie Review - Khushboo
The story is about Raghu (Rishi Rehan), a very ambitious man for whom his career takes precedence over everything. His attitude undergoes a sea-change when Pinky (Avantikka) enters in his scheme of things. Rishi shows all the signs of an inexperienced actor and his efforts to emulate Hrithik Roshan fall flat.
Movie Review - Haal-e-Dil
Looks like it's the season of decrepit and mediocre films in Bollywood this year. Shot in breath-taking locales, the film leaves t a strong visual impact on the viewers. The already hit musical score may not possible be able to save the movie's fortunes. A complete dil-breaker. This one's gonna sink at the box-office!
Movie Review - Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic
After Taarae Zameen Par, this is another movie for the kids and family. TPTM is a fun movie, trying to find sense in the story that may not exactly make complete sense. All said and done, Kunal Kohli movies have always managed to entertain. Saif Ali Khan is superb and had delivered a matured performance. Amisha Patel, in the skimpiest of clothes one has ever seen her in, lights up the proceedings.
Movie Review - Aamir
Aamir, a suspense thriller, is about a commoner used by an extremist group for subversive activities in Mumbai. The film has no lead actress or supporting casts and the cinematography is average. What stands out is the performance of TV star Rajeev Khandelwal and the producers courage to make such a movie that has no support from areas of film making like dance and action sequences.
